                  I'd like to help in any way possible. I have a spare auto aspire ecu that i was going to gut to house my freeems one.

                      On the one hand, I am now dedicating most of my time on developing my own ECU - I have kinda learned enough from the stock ECU. On the other hand, a GREAT and VERY useful project would be to create a stimulation board so that stm32 can stimulate the stock ECU and sniff the outputs in order to research the stock behavior. Would you be interested in drawing the board for such a device? So far I was using a couple of transistors and a couple of digital potentiometers, I would love if you could bring this board to the next level.                           The ECU will compensate for extra loads via the idle valve but for the most part fast idle on a cold startup is controlled by the mechanical portion of the valve, which runs on coolant circulating through it

                            So once the coolant reaches operating temp, the idle is then controlled electronically right?

                            I know that this is because the o2 sensor can't give a reliable reading until it warms up (or so I've read)

                              I'll start by making a list of inputs and outputs.
                              Of the inputs I need to find out their working voltages for signals and switches.
                              I would also need to find out resistance parameters for temp sensors and the like.

                              My experience with software is limited. But I go well with analog electronics and hardware.

                              Given some time, I can come up with a test bench.
                              Its on my list now

                                subscribed for this one.. keeping my eyes and ears peeled..

                                hopefully there is some FORDFESTIVA.COM ECU Programming app that could be created for all makes of commonly used ECU's... would be sweet to tune without having to go for something too extravangent or be able to use stock equipment.. i know factory ecu would be pretty limited somewhat in regards to hardware, but i would be fairly certain that rom's could be created to support hardware upgrades directly onboard.. think of a pc BIOS chip.. they tend to flash their existing hardware for additional support as well as overclocking the CPU to enable faster processing, but additional heat generation due to the additional clock cycles.. however, i doubt that a lot of heat would be generated from such small hardware.. could any hardware tweakers confirm this.
