What's the idle like on your FMS cam? Mine is just rough enough it's annoying, but doesn't really have any lope or sound like a performance cam. I really haven't been able to set the idle or timing yet, and it just has an open head pipe, so maybe it will be better. It does idle smooth at about 1000 rpm, however. I'd just like to know what it SHOULD idle and sound like.

proper timing will get you a steady 750 easy. as it is, my ear says i'm right there and it's smooth. no lope, no roughness to speak of, but the off idle response is lacking which says my timing is not advanced enough; easy fix.Trees aren't kind to me...

What did you do in the ports? It looks like you just removed the casting marks?A mechanic knows how; A technician knows why.

I assume if you go that far that you would need a flow bench to do anything beneficialA mechanic knows how; A technician knows why.

It is hard to explain how restrictive the B3 head is without actually taking one and start taking material off. I know Matt Dickmeyer said something about getting 25% more air flow just by shaving the valve guides down.

It really goes without saying that 25% is REALLY impressive gain from just shaving off the excess valve guide. That's actually so impressive it makes me skeptical, but I'm naturally skeptical of everything. I'll have to get another head to experiment with on my daily...Last edited by Sid_RallyX_82; 10-17-2017, 12:07 AM.A mechanic knows how; A technician knows why.

This is the head thats on bens car now right? Dickmyers goal was 300+ hp b3+t but quit half way through and i think ben had it dynoed at 90whp? Was there work done to it other than on the head?

Iirc the block was decked and the head shaved for compression. 90whp puts the crank output at at least 100hp, so a nearly 40% increase with a cam, valves and head work is impressive. Almost 25% through a significant mod as removing the valve guide protrusion isn't so unbelievable.Trees aren't kind to me...

I'm not sure if it was on his car but I know he shaved down a b3 crank and polished it at one point as well.
His post are still on here but I doubt the Pictures are still functioning.Last edited by firebush357; 10-20-2017, 06:48 AM."The White Turd" 1993 Festiva 144k miles. (Winner of FOTM November 2016)
