I forgot about the FMU, and bigger fuel pump. But yeah I think Danny's car is a B6.

you guys arent making the connection that its a lemon race which means: multiple drivers, reliability, long stints, fuel mileage, and 500$ rule. Turbo is a bad idea.

I've ran lemons, its going to kill you. Honestly do as much n/a as possible. Im sure a bp head with an exintake camswap and a set of headers with a stock heat shielding covering the header is your best bet. That will make the car fast enough.

Also for spring rates, you need some stiffer stuff. Spray paint some ebay coilovers black, cut your fenders to lower the festiva as much as possible. Some black spray paint and mud/dirt will ensure a quick glance.

image.jpg. Yeah, there has been some cutting and beating on the car. From stock it's about 4 inches lower.

Now that's what I'm talking about!!!
. I prefer n/a just for the peace of mind when other drivers are out there that I won't have the engine with an extra 7lbs of pressure for 10hrs a day.

Re: SOHC B8 to BP swap or not

Rock the BP forward, and build up your rear engine mount. You'll have to build a custom mount for the engine anyway, so why not?

I feel like a total newb. Why rock the BP forward? More weight to the front? If I already have a B8 in the car will I need to make a custom mount for the BP? I was thinking about changing the heads to a built DOHC and putting it on the B8 block.

EurOtivA has practically patented the b3 mount with the spacers for the passenger mount.

Bp swap is cake. If u have a cut off wheel and a welder u can fab the stock mounts and not have to beat your firewall. Me an a buddy did my bp and f series trans swap in a weekend. And the two bp festys i had beat on hard. Specially my first one. And had no problems. Only thing id do is swap in a bigger radiator an run dual fans. Id go bp. Seems like alot less headaches later down the road.

Not to mention that the Festiva harness is a 99% snap-in system. You only have to add VICS and dizzy wires (2) that you can easily slip through a grommet behind the d/s fender. Moving the engine forward is only part of the equation. You don't have to cut and box the passenger side frame, but the pulley on the BP is so close to the frame otherwise that you have to raise (or drop) the engine to get the lower pulley when you change belts. The reality of this is that it's a bi-annual maintenance issue. If that's not a problem, there's no need to cut and box.

                          Time to find a BP.
Mazda Protoge or Ford Escort or Kia Sephia?
The junkyard says Escort is around 350-400, the Sephia is about $250, and $350-400 for the BP Protege.
I am going to rebuild before putting in so which would you buy if all else is equal (mileage on the motor is difficult to determine)

Personally, I prefer the Mazda, but no matter which one you buy from a junk yard, make sure you buy an engine from a car that has body damage enough to make it the reason the car was junked. If you buy an engine from a car with no body damage, why is the car in the junk yard? The car probably has some major mechanical repairs needed that would cost more than the car is worth.
                            You gonna race that thing?

It depends on what you want your valve cover to look like: Ford, Mazda, or KIA. The issue that you would have with the Escort version is that there are special clamps on the fuel lines that only Ford BP engines had, and they require a special tool to remove them. You can rent or buy this tool from an auto parts store. Once you get them off, you can use standard hose clamps.

                              And what he said! ^

You can swap the head, but you need to swap the oil and water pumps as well. And you might end up with a low-ish compression rario because the combustion chambers and pistons are quite a bit different between the two engines. I can't remember.
