I was wondering if the was a MAF out there that I could wire or plug in, in place of the stock VAF air box on my 89. I would like to for the ease of bolting on an intake instead of having to fudge something with the VAF box. Thanks.

No. Mass Air is a completely different engine management system. You could convert to MAF in theory, but it would require a ton of work. The VAF works good and is not a restriction on these cars....Nothing to gain there. But, it is ugly.Brian

I started working on a project a couple of years ago, although there wasn't a lot of interested so I discontinued it. http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ersion-projectLast edited by NicholasJackson; 02-17-2013, 10:51 AM.93 Ford Festiva WA (project car)

At one time, Rocketman (member) was selling adapters that would bolt to the VAF meter and allow you to install a cone filter. You can also get cheap ones on eBay.Brian

I'm a Software Engineering major and I built two prototypes. One using the Hotwire MAF and the other using the Vortex MAF. The first release was pretty cool and promising but yeah I didn't take it any further. At the time my festiva was still carb so I didn't bother.93 Ford Festiva WA (project car)

Sure. Ill have to find some of my old files. I just recently moved to Germany and don't live in Australia anymore where I started the project. The project was cheap. I only spent 200 aud developing it. This included buying mafs and vafs breadboards and components. The devices itself not including the maf was only about 10 aud dollars of components.93 Ford Festiva WA (project car)

Anything happen with this? I would still like a MAF swap that's affordable. A MAF doesn't care how it's mounted. Upside down, turned however you like, and pointed literally however you need it, and once it's mounted, gravity and G-forces don't affect it. And then there's the looks thing and it being more compact.
So, bump for news.Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

Oh, and just as a side note, there is an item that does this already available for a while now. However support seems to be nil for it. Forum link is dead and no recent comments on the item page.

Are those the guys in NZ or Aus that developed that originally? What do they do for the fuel pump switch?
I'm a big fan of just getting rid of any type of VAF/MAF http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/m...ase-p-128.html

you can just buy an adapter plate for air filter and then not more air box.;
