^^ I would be more incline to work with the gearing in the 5 speed personally. In my Speed3 (as in most 6 speeds), 6th gear basically does the work of 5th in a 5 speed and even in 6th it still seems as if it's too low and could use a 7th. I don't know if that's part of their strategy to keep the turbo slightly spooled or what but at 80mph on the interstate she's still taching up there pretty good in 6th.

I've recently heard that the 6spds in the Mazda 3's share similarities with our G series tranny.... That makes me wanna do some hands on investigating which usually ends up into another project lol
1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor
1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)
If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

Possibly the internals...but that will be some expensive investigating LOL.
All the Speed stuff is wicked expensive new and used. I'm currently trying to work a deal on a used AC compressor for mine because my AC clutch decided to commit suicide in VA on my last drive home. I've got the guy talked into $200 for the whole compressor assembly used and a new one is $397 for the clutch alone. Add another $509 for the mag coil :nightmare:
The cheapest Speed gearbox I've seen on Ebay is $600 for a busted one.

I'd start with a simple axle, if a Speed axle will fit our G series then it'll work vice versa meaning the speed tranny can be made to work in a festiva.... If the diff is 28 spline though then it may need to get swapped into a BG chassis to avoid custom axles
