    when should one decide that the valves need to be reshimmed.my motor runs good just a slight rough idle and wondered about valve adjustment thnx.

    Carby or EFI? Gotta give us the info about your car. And there is no shimming on these valvetrains BTW.

      its a carb.
      ok 89 with weber swap b3 jasper engine.msd ignition

      new
      rocketman adapter
      plugs
      wires
      dizzy rotor and button
      fuel filter
      electric fuel pump with regulator at 3psi
      coil
      all gaskets and seals except head gasket

      used
      msd setup but worked good on the car it came from
      carb was used but good shapebut has been used a lot for offroading rock climber I have already cleaned it and set float level

        From your question about valve shimming, I take it you don't have a Haynes manual. Strongly recommend you get one, it will answer lots of basic questions.

        The carbys use a screw-and-locknut valve adjustment system. How to do it will be in the Haynes manual.

          I know how to do it just surely thought these motors had shims guess I should of had my eyes open when I had valve covers off.lol thnx tominmo

              I thought you couldn't put a carby intake on an EFI head? Am I mistaken?

                  yes you can put a carb intake on a EFI head (they're the same casting, as well as the 1G 323).
                  Trees aren't kind to me...

                  currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
                  94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

                        figured out my new used jasper motor has 90,120,150,185 compression I think that's my rough idle lol sucks but think im going b6 this time

                          Yep, there's your sign! You'll like a B6 better anyway. It's more funner.

                          Lifters don't go bad that often, and I'm not sure they would cause a rough idle issue.
