I'm considering having my flywheel lightened up some while I'm swapping the engines. The machinist is asking where he should be taking off metal, and I have no idea. What areas do you grind down to lighten it?

I think the problem was that I was asking a general machinist who hadn't worked on car parts much. I called around to some others and I'm thinking the cost will be more than I'm willing to spend. $200-300 for a couple pounds savings.OX SMASH!!

flywheel
Best to stick to a machinist that does nothing but car stuff for a flywheel, since once it is lightened, it will need to be balanced as well, you really don't want Joe blow doing a flywheel, since one done by a hack may go up in a catastrophic manner.
If you are using a GM25R tranny, you should be able to find a fidanza or other flywheel made lighter.
