  • fuel pump wiring.

    hey guys,

Doing a B6 swap (Ford Capri B6) and was thinking about the fuel pump.. the pump itself will physically screw onto the tank, but the wiring is different.

The Festiva Wiring is three wires (three wires on the one plug) for its stock carb pump and the Capri's pump has 5 wires for it's wiring (4 wires to one plug and a secondary single wire for the 2nd)

Since i haven't done the wiring yet, would it be easy to run the new pump and use the wiring in conjuction with the capri's loom or is it easier to stick with getting a new EFI tank for the Festiva and use the stock wiring?

When i swap my carb car im just going to fab the hanger/sender to hold the capri pump. Which only needs power and ground.

well in that case, this is going to be a snap..

Only thing i'm going to need to do is cut off original fuel return off the tank and block up with this stuff.

      http://www.selleys.com.au/putty/epoxy/knead-it-steel/

have been told to make sure it's good by testing a small part in some fuel for a week or two to see if it degrades.. if it doesn't, i'm doing it.

do you happen to know the colour wires or what plug i'd be looking at for the power and ground? i'll grab some photos for you.

don't cut off the fuel return, you NEED that for an EFI swap AND any carb swap. also, on the carb tank, you have 3 wires (2 for the fuel level sneder and 1 tank ground), you have the same 3 wires on the EFI tank, PLUS one power and one ground for the pump. i would recomend that you find an EFI tank and sending unit from another Festy and then splice in the capri/festy harness: less work and chance for issues later, plus you don't have to put holes in the sending unit which become leak points (fumes).

also, i won't block up the return. just need a swapover.

i'll get more information when i have it ready to install.

ok, i understand that we didn't get efi aspires here in australia..

hrrrm thinking the return block on carby tank, use capri fuel sender/return.. wiring is all i need to know about the capri fuel sender and festiva fuel wiring.

as i was saying festiva carb has 3 wires and for capri sender has 5 so i'm assuming the following:

Festiva wires are ground, power and fuel level signal for cluster? (grouped in a single plug of the three wires)

Capri wires are power, ground, fuel level and the other two might be for the inertia cutoff switch(magnetic switch in case of accident near fueltank)?? (grouped in two sets, 4 wires to one plug and a single wire for 2nd plug/wire.

can anyone lead me to salvation with the wiring information as the sender will fit, has a built in return and only need to block original return pipe to fueltank.

For the Festiva, the bright red wire is for the fuel level, the black/white is power for the pump and the black is a common ground for both.

Check what colour wires are on the Capri fuel pump relay.
Front seating area, center, behind dash, where dash meets console, mounted in driver side relay block.

I only see a WHT/BLK wire from the Capri inertia switch to the fuel pump.

thanks for the heads up i can look at the sender tommorow and see what colours were connected to the fuel sender and let you know.. where's rocketman when you need him

                    Found it.

                    5 wires.(excellent start)

                    Green/Red.
                    Black/Red.
                    Black/White.
                    Green/White.
                    Black.

It seems also I can strip out the Festiva fuel wiring and replace it with this setup as these all run off the ecu... Bonus points...

                      Relay colours match schematic.
The fuel level wire is yellow.
The green/red goes from the fuel pump relay to the inertia switch.
It exits the inertia switch as the white/black wire to the pump.

I do not see the other wires in the schematics. Waiting for you to say what colours they are.
