  • Performance questions!

Hello all!! I'm new to the ford festiva and just picked up a black 1988 ford festiva. I've been looking around for direct bolt on parts for the N/A 1.3L motor but can't find anything. I've heard if festiva Motorsports but car find the site and when I do find a link it says it doesn't exist. So I was wondering what sites/parts have you guys used to get as much power out of the festiva engine WITHOUT motor swapping. thanks a lot!

There are some cams and headers floating around.....otherwise you make everything yourself. You can home make an exhaust and intake, maybe add a bit of timing. Making a home turbo kit is technically a bolt on, lol.

Get the head shaved and dremel the parts of the valve guides that stick into the ports till they're flush with the wall. That should be easy for most people to do.

EDIT: I know it's not what you want to hear, but see the post directly above mine. B3 custom parts are all dead now.

u will have twice as much in making a b3 fast as u would just swapping in my opinion.but with enough money anything can be made fast

FMS FestivaMotorSports petered-out slowly over the past 4 years and stopped advertising about a year ago. If it's cheap, reliable and durable power you want start looking around for an early B6 carb engine. It will bolt right in and on to the existing tranny and immediately get you another 20 hp (ie 1/3 increase).

Bert is in Canada, where B6 carbys existed I guess. If you're in Murrica, all B6s are EFI. But definitely a good swap. I have one and it's a lot peppier than what a B3 can be made to do without spending a lot of time and/or money. Much easier swap to do if you're starting with an EFI B3, tho.

Yeah I've been around bikes(motorcycles) and have done exhausts and such for motorcycles so a custom intake ad exhaust shouldn't be a problem, but I'm talking about camshafts, high compression pistons, etc. and I've never dealt with turbos so what type of turbo would work, cuz I'm the kind of person who would rather pull as much out power of what I have rather than just swap a motor. Any internet links to turbos and parts would be great! Thanks again!

What do you mean by add a bit of timing?

Advance ignition timing. There is no aftermarket engine wise for the B3. No pistons, no cams, etc. Did have them. They are gone now.

Sorry, never looked all that close at older B6s to see about carbs but bravekozak retrofitted one of these over to twin-carb in his car. The reason I brought all this up is the Festy in question for performance upgrade is an 88 and I think that MTX and ATXs all were carbed at that time. Moving over to EFI means ornery wiring harness and ECU work.

As we know from the mature, thoughtful posts of widely-esteemed member Breedlove, Bert is The Most Hated And Despised Man In Canada, so take what he sez w/a grain of salt. ;-)

Did carby 323s exist in CA Bert, like in Oz?

How would you advance the timing?

Also Mazda 121 (euro version of ford festiva) of the same year fit the festiva such as springs coil overs etc? Euro sites have slot more performance parts for they're euro version then we do in America.

Turn disty clockwise if looking at it from the drivers side fender......And yes, 121 parts will work, tho shipping will kill you. If you have fab skills much better options for suspension here. .......And lol at Tom! Good ninja slight of a certain man from TN.

So, I kind of have to be the jerk here, but if you are not familiar with how to adjust timing, then why are you even thinking about high comp pistions, camshafts etc? This kind of stuff is a lot more involved than just bolt on. Seriously, it is a lot easier to drop in a b6 from a mazda 323, but it sounds like you should get familiar with adjusting valve lash, setting timing, carb adjustments, making sure your b3 is in good running shape first. THEN worry about modifying it. This isnt a civic, and unfortunately this isnt going to be a "bolt on a CAI and fart can exhaust" type of thing.

As was mentioned, most of the festiva folks on here seem to think in terms of fuel injected models. Being an 88 you prob have a carb. If you can find a weber kit anywhere that is technically a bolt on and would give you a good performance jump, but I am pretty sure it wont be emissions legal if you live in an area where you have to deal with that.
