  • sticky please - E Series B6 DOHC new passenger mount replacement.

    hey guys,

To confirm my maddening search for a new passenger mount, i found this combination to work perfectly and also mount the engine exactly where it needs to be with the e series/B6 Dohc swap.. this swap is for the average cruiser, no performance but wants the engine upgrade and be able to still drive around la-dee-da-dee-da.

    ok here it is.

the mounts you will be needing are:

The two transmission mounts from the e-series transmission - Unmodded
a 1998 kia sephia rear engine bracket (kinda hooks around the engine and will fit exactly in the right place, in-line with the passenger chassis mounting bracket.. - Unmodded
and last but definitely not least:- a 2000-2005 KIA Rio Passenger side engine mount. - slightest modding necessary - tool - hacksaw, sawzall or any cutting implement useful for cutting solid hard metal.

    ok here is the procedure.

to add this new mounting combination in, basically remove the original b6 centre mount (usually runs behind timing belt below camshafts) then bolt on new sephia mount using the original b6 bolts used to bolt the two parts of the mount (the two bolts will be visible looking to the side of the pulley face) together and the original long bolt that mounted the original bracket to the block (as a tip: the bolts i have all have a 10 marked at the top of the bolt, however your bolts might differ in appearance).

once that old mount is removed and timing belt is put back into place or timing has been reset, bolt on new sephia bracket to rear side of the engine (for those playing at home, that's the intake side)

this will sit a bit further back from the original centre mounting position where a lot of modded brackets where using the original 'L-shaped' engine bracket mod. by using the sephia mount, this will make the 'L-shaped mount' redundant as this will sit exactly where it needs to in comparison to mounting the block in it's original placement and without having to adjust placement.

now, lower engine into engine bay.. i won't profess to tell you how or what order to have your mounts installed, but i usually wait until the engine/transmission combo is near the height of the crossmember, whereby i install them and then lower the engine/trans combo into mounting positions.

from there, the rio mount you may have noticed has a bit of overhang, but will sit nicely into the original festiva mount bracket for the passenger side.

simply saw/sawzall/remove rubber and "bolt-tube" until flush with sides of mount and slide on into it's new home.

bolt in new mount and existing mounts and you'll notice it sits quite tightly and feels rock solid.. also engine block is level and neat and even.

for the pictures to be seen of the new mounts used, head over to the fordfestiva.com facebook link here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1874...0385052374959/

this will provide you with placement pics, mount types and look.. the rio mount pic can be found on google really easily and to describe it, basically looks like a smaller version of the f/g series mount with the nose cut off so it basically looks like two holes instead of the triangular setup that was 3.

    happy trails.

here are some snaps of the mounts.

comparison of the bolt patterns between old B6 and new sephia bracket.

bolting confirmation of intake side of the engine.

new placement of new sephia mount and original mounting bracket for original B3 passenger mount (ignore the 121 written on the mount, wreckers markings) and btw, that rusty looking ring is for the alternator bracket.

side on comparison for old and new engine mount/brackets.

side on shot of sephia mount.

new passenger mount (kia rio mount)

this hopefully will bring joy to the thousands of festiva fans out there dying for that factory fresh look and feel and leave you wondering why "the FMK didn't ford do this sooner?"

now i can't confirm this will work for any other swap apart from the B6D/E series.. but anyone else is more than welcome to try and please document your findings up here as i believe there is also a 1.8l mount as well (not sure if it's the same mount or same mount, different design/length) and i'd also be interested to see if this will cater for any other transmission swaps too.. fingers crossed and touching every tree in the forest...

also i believe that the mazda protege (95 to 96 according to the ebay ad i found) also had a mount very similar too so you might be able to still snap them up as well. here is a pic of that mount.

the eBay link for anyone wanting it is here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/230952711252...84.m1438.l2649

With this, out of everything, it leaves a tiny hole where the old mount was. Does anyone know of a changeover timing cover that will "fill the gap"?

The BP timing belt cover from an escort GT or protege fills out the whole deal, and should bolt right up

                Here..

If a BP volunteer wants to "guinea pig" themselves, please go ahead.

Would love to hear some feedback the g series with BP and B6 combinations as i haven't dealt with them personally, but i think this would cater to sohc also..
