Is the c clip missing? Can you spread the c clip out so it grabs more? C clip is the only thing holding it in.

the c clip is there. it sits on the ground and the actual axle its stretched, i read somewhere that the aspire axles were 3/8ths longer than the festiva im going to the junkyard and see if the ones i took off are still there. i got the tranny yesterday afternoon and put it, when i was testing it it poped out walked back home to get the pick up

The facts are a little vague here, but if you have an aspire you should use aspire axles, if it is a festiva you should use festiva axles. Not quite sure if you have a festiva or an aspire.

I would not use any aspire 5speed, they are the most crap i've ever seen.... I would use the Festiva tranny in both the Festivas and Aspires.... sorry but that's my 2¢

I would have to agree.I have had several Aspire trans go bad but no Festy trans.I have a Festy with 600,000+ and the trans is still great.I put a Festy 5 speed in an Aspire after the third Aspire trans in that car went bad.So far it has been great.

Not much difference between the two trannies internally other than the final drive ratio. I have seen festiva trannies go out in less than 150k miles. It is all about how it is driven and how it is maintained. Most of these trannies leak, run out of oil, and then run 50k miles with almost no oil in them. That's pretty impressive in my book.

i have a festiva with an aspire trans. the only reason i opted for that trans is cause i drive 100 miles everyday on highway and i like the final drive on the aspire trans. i went back to the junkyard last night and got the axles for the aspire and changed the driverside only on it. no more trouble. i got pics just got to wait till my break time to upload it

Which front mount did you use when you put the tranny in?

You do know the aspire trans has the lower gear, resulting in higher rpm on the highway, right?

Not sure on the exact ratios...they're on here somewhere. Do a search.

But the aspire was given a shorter diff ratio to compensate for the additional weight and taller tires. Its a well known thing here.
