Transmission gears 1-5 are the same in both the festiva and aspire 5-speed transmissions. The final drives is what is different, this is not the same as say....a different 5th gear. The final drive ratio is determined by the amount of teeth on the differential gear and the sun gear. The diff gear in the aspire transmission has 69 teeth and the sun gear has 17 teeth. So 69 divided by 17 makes a 4.05 to 1 ratio. With the festiva transmission, there is a 68 tooth diff gear with an 18 tooth sun gear to get a 3.77 to 1 ratio. So in theory, a festiva transmission placed in a aspire would make for a slower "take off" rate and a higher top end. Conversely an aspire transmission placed in a festiva would make it launch faster but top out sooner. A festiva transmission is better for fuel economy, while an aspire transmission is better for acceleration.

I picked up an easy 5 MPG when I put the Festy trans in one of my Aspires.I don't really notice any difference in "take off".

If you don't race, you probably wouldn't notice the difference. Only the people who are putting the pedal to the floor would notice the acceleration difference. Sounds like you drive for fuel economy, so the festiva tranny was a nice upgrade.

thanks to everyone. well i have a spare now. i took the pan out and the festiva and the thrust bearings on the crank are really worn out, and to me it has exesive endplay, but i dont know that cause i dont know the specs of it if anyone know that the crankshaft end play please let me know i been having a grinding sound on it. wich i thought it was the transmission out of wack wich i tore the old one out and found the differential spider gears and side gears worn out, put it back in the car and it did the same thing so i opted for the aspire trans thinking it would do better on the highway wich i dont mind the faster takeoff, but a little on the top end, so thats how i landed here, and im here to learn so trow some knowlege my way

I always thought the Stock Festiva was Faster at everything then the Aspire, but that's just me.... the Aspire is a heavier car as well....

So, to sum it all up. 1.) EXACTLY what is needed to install the Aspire tranny into a Festiva. Mounts, axles, speedometer gear, etc. 2.) Can Aspire final drive gears be installed into a Festiva gearbox?
                Tnx

I used all festivs parts mounts brackets and all. The driver side axle is longer on the aspire, the depth of the spline locking ring is deeper in the aspire trans, get both to make sure

I had no internal difference when I swapped my festiva inner cv for an Aspire inner cv. The Aspire shaft assembly compresses to almost the same length as the festy but its extension is a lot longer. I needed that and it has worked fine for several years.

Why not just use a whole aspire axle then?
