Yes, they are tough if maintained.

What do you mean? Normally with a BP turbo you will be swapping the G series trans in anyway.

you'd think that if the stock festiva MT will bolt onto a bpt, so should a stock festiva ATX.

Yup. Using the stock manual is suicide though. The auto is a much stronger trans.

My idea with the manuals is if the stock clutch cant hold the power then you probably should run a bigger trans. Basically anything over a B6D or B8 or 100hp.
