Carbed B3 performance...

Yea, I know, I should just swap the engine, but I quite like the little B3 and am not really interested in cutting up my car for a swap. In the last two months I've not found anything remotely close to a swap candidate (were the cars that most of the popular swaps came in U.S. Market only? I can't seem to find anything here)

Anyways, I have an '89 with a Carbed B3, and I'd like to wake it up a little. Not thinking huge numbers here, maybe 75-80whp, just enough to make it a bit more fun down a twisty backroad. Any common modifications to start unlocking some power?

me personally would switch out the electronically controlled crappy stock carb for an Weber escort carb

Header, better-flowing muffler, Weber or Escort carb, advance the ignition.

soo in an attempt to hijack thread,, same question but EFI, and potential new motor build up ( not now ) so do bolt on's work on these cars ,, are there bolt ons?

Drill holes in airbox (high-RPM breathing), header, better muffler, advance ignition.

The common swap cars were available in Canada, but they are all over 20 years old now and most have been scrapped years ago in snowy regions. If you keep an eye out on eBay you'll find a few engine importers in Canada that can get you a nice low mileage engine for the price of a decent rebuild on the b3.
The 1.5, and 1.6 engines do not require any cutting of the car and offer additional HP without sacrificing drivability or reliability.

Zman86 i recently put an 81 escort carb i snagged on ebay for 40 bucks with free shipping i made my own adapter plate for it out of aluminum i know that rocketman makes an adapter for this after making mine i would say buy that adapter very hard to get the plate not to have a vacuum leak. Anyway that escort carb really woke up my motor had to detune it to get my mpgs back still needing to rejet smaller to get more mpg i dont really care about speed mine is my dd that goes 90 round trip to work every day throttle works the same but u have to make a mount for the bracket it hasb to move also have to rig up something for air cleaner i i cut bottom of air box bent some metal and welded it up to fit not pretty but works i also switched to a kn air filter i like it over stock filter

Nothing mentioned in this thread will get an engine rated 58 hp at the crank to make 75-80 at the wheel. You will have to do a lot of head work to get those goals.
