Post #2 in this thread gives the pinout for the instrument cluster. The title for the pic itself says it's for a 92 cluster, obviously non-tach. Note that for letter "I" on the white plug, the diagram says "not used"; but it even gives the wire color as ylw/grn. That is where the tach wire is.

You could run a wire from the coil neg straight to that pin for a cleaner install; you would need the appropriate connector to attach to the wire tho, and stick it in the plug. No doubt someone here can help you source one of those if you want it, and the tools to do it.

In you post #11, the screw directly under the one you have the wire attached to is the ground. Note that it is already connected to other grounds on the panel, so it will not be necessary to run a ground wire for the tach.

It was hit and miss which ones didn't. The LXs obviously had the tach wire, since they had a tach, but some of the L models also had tach wires but no tachs. There seemed to be some really stripped down models that were missing the tach wire and the wiring for the power mirrors.

BTW the above pinout picture prints out nicely as a full page, to stick in your shop manual for easier reference.

In the cluster pic in post 11, the foulr screws in the lower right are for the fuel gauge. Notice how the 2nd from the top goes to a space where a light should be (and is, in other markets like Oz). This has to be the low-fuel warning light that the US and presumably CA didn't get. I wonder how hard it would be to hook up a low-fuel warning light, given those little holes in the copper ends of the traces? A separate light in the dash, in one of the unused switch locations; or just drill a hole where the light should be, on the cluster.

Post #1 in this thread, pic #2, shows the back of an Australian non-tach cluster at the top of the pic, for reference.

My cluster was added later but my harness doesn't have the wire. Someone added a wire and right now it's connected to the ground of the coil and the back of the cluster but I believe the tach itself is bad. I think it may have been wired up wrong at some point and shorted. I have left a deposit on a new cluster today.
