  • BP with F series

Does anyone have any pictures of cars with a BP/F series manual? I'm entertaining the idea of a BP with Rio trans for a project and was curious if it would fit without cutting the car up to much.

I tried doing some searching and didn't really turn anything up. I'm guessing that there aren't too many examples out there since this is sort of an odd ball combination.

    Thanks, Blake

I think its more or less the same as mounting a G, as in moving the drivetrain forward a couple inches. Not sure if there is rotation involved or not.

What is a bp an f and a g?I have my eye on a dead 1st gen rx7 and was considering doing a b3 or b6 swap in it.Biggest concern is bellhousing clutch and flywheel.
30 + Vehicle projects right now.7 Festiva/Mazda 10 GM IDK how many others, hope that helps explain all the stupid questions/shortcuts/interchanges etc. trying to liquidate so I concentrate on the good ones. Goal finish 1 amonth using as much stuff as I already have accumulated.

        These are engines and Trans.
The BP is the 1.8 DOHC B series engine.

The E, F and G are Mazdas manual FWD trans. Stock Festiva is E, F is in something else and not the Aspire lol, and then Capri XR2/323 GT/ Escort GT use a G series, which is much beefier than the E, recommended for higher HP swaps. Also has a half shaft with equal length axles.

Thanks Brad, I knew it would move forward at least a bit due to the larger ring gear. I'm specifically trying to figure out if the you end up needing to cut the frame rails. I know a BP G series won't fit and a B6 G series will so I'm wondering if the F series trans is small enough to fit with the BP between the frame rails.

So an E with a different final drive and a different mount?

Yes...why would anyone ever think it's an F series? It has a 22 spline diff just like the Festiva.

I have a BP with an Fseries in my racecar. It does fit without cutting the frame rails with custom front and passenger side brackets, but the axles dont come out quite right. It really need to be like 3/4" farther to the drivers side. This would require doing some cutting on that frame rail. I havent really thought about how to redo the rear mount, so i havent gone down that path yet.2018-08-16 21.15.22.jpg2018-08-16 21.15.31.jpg

That would be original. I thought the hot ticket was the rotary in the Festiva.

Are there two different versions of a G transmission? one for BP and a different one for a B6?

Thanks Brad, here is the question. I have a B6T with G transmission pulled out of a Capri donor. This is slowly finding its way into my '93. I also have a spare BP Kia engine. When I find a good shell I plan on dropping the BP in and I do not want to use an E transmission. That being said I should look for (actually grab the one at the salvage yard) a G transmission that was used with a B6 engine because if I am reading things right a BP with a BP series G transmission will not fit. At least without a lot of additional work. Is this correct? Thank you in advance!

I dont know much other than the BP transmission tilts the whole drivetrain forward. It also is hydraulic clutch instead of cable and has a 4.11 final drive rather than the 3.85 in the Capri one. That shorter gearing may be better for what you are doing.
