I am ready to transplant my rebuilt B6 and tranny. I took off the short half shaft to get the whole thing out of the old car in one piece. What is the best way to put it back? With the long halfshaft, engine and tranny? Or, can I put the tranny in first and then slip the engine in and mate it to the transmission? Is there room to do this? Any preferences? Any comments will be appreciated before I rent the hoist for a second time. Thanks.

Sounds like your keeping one of the shafts installed so the spider gears won't fall. This makes things a bit harder, preferably you'd want just the shaft end from a scrap shaft installed in the trans for this purpose. I had this problem once, no stub shaft to hold the gears in place. I slid the trans with the short shaft in first then bolted the engine to the trans then rehooked it all up and then set it in its place on the mounts.

I've had my engine/transmission out three times now and I've never left the axles in. No problems so far. It seems wierd that mazda would make a transmission that can't be handled without an axle in. What do they do during assembly?OX SMASH!!

When I did my swap to a B6, I pulled both out and installed both together. I used cut up broomhandle pieces in the tranny CV holes.

Dead thread revival.
Where's Monsoon?
Anyway.
Do any of y'all have tips for installing a B3 into the car with the manual tranny still in place?
I have the crank pulley off and alternator out. Just seeing if there are any tips for getting the clutch and output shaft to line up while I wait on assistant hands.~Austin
