  • modified tranny

    hi,

does anybody heard of a modify tranny? using a stock 1.3liter mazda engine, EFI, car runs at 80KPH on 1st gear with this modified tranny. havent done this though but a mechanic told me that he already tested this.

i would just like to confirm if this is true, since i havent tried to race the car he modify.

wow, thats really fast in first gear. why would you want first gear to be that high? you'd have problems moving from a stop.

Hi guys... is it really possible to make the car run fast by tweaking the inside of tranny? or should there be parts inside the tranny that has to be changed? what do you think? has anybody done this? From what i've heard here in our place, one car runs fast and only the tranny was somehow modified/tuned. What might be the possible tweaks has he done?

          Tsk.. tsk..tsk..

Anyway, followup que.. is there any truth to altering gear ratio to speed up tranny? has anybody done this?? Is it true that it can be (re)set?

P.S. honest answer please.. don't confuse the novices

It is technically possible to alter you gear ratios, but no one in their right mind is going to waste the time/effort/money to do it to a festy/aspire tranny. So in practical terms, No.

Alter gear ratios by turning a screw? Why not put a knob on the dash to "custom tune" your tranny performance?

Hell, I'm not really a "mechanic" and I didn't believe that one!

Whether final drive or the individual gears, I believe you have to take the damn thing apart and switch cogs or something. Just like on a derailleur equipped bike, only more difficult.

Actually, a CVT kind of comes close to this deal, but it's designed that way and works automatically.

Well, you can put a knob on your dash to adjust shift firmness in an auto if you're so inclined. It involves quite a bit more than just having a knob though

Even I thought it was BS, and I'm pretty gullible. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to change the # of teeth on the gears to change the ratios, something that cannot be done with a twist of a screw unless there's some really weird type of transmission that I've never heard of with this capability.
