stubby trick cat for b6 swap

so I'm currently getting ready to install my rebuilt b6 engine and I was just doing the last of the fab work. I noticed if you use the b6 downpipe it's too long and pushes the exhaust back alot, I figured you could either shorten the pipe or the cat,......and since I was "modifing" my cat for optimum fuel milage, I ended up with this.......
the cat has been cut, 4" section removed, and re-welded back together again.............with a little more flow on the inside 8)


just looks like a regular cat eh?

Last week I took my friend to pick up his 3000gt vr4 exhaust. The muffler is "fake" like your cat. It's just on there so you cant really get in trouble for exhaust noise. Cops around me at least pull kids over for exhaust noise.

oooo, he might want to watch that, ive seen inspection garages stict a broom handle into the muffler to check for guts on suspected gutted mufflers, it actually happened to my friend, he had to take it off an weld in a baffle to pass inspection

Well its guaranteed he will not pass inspection with it in New Jersey. He will have to buy a sticker.

Here they do a visual and tail pipe test for emmissions. But my Festiva passed w/"fake" cat like yours and a B6 SOHC w/just a bottle of guaranteed to pass crap run through a gas tank! -Kyle

alot of circle tracks requirie mufflers so people just gut them.

what year b6 are you using? Mine was out of a 89 mercury i belive, the downpipe fit just like the factory b3

really,? mine was out of a 89 323, and it didn't come down far enough and hit the axel, so I just bent it with some heat and it fits now, took some work though :wink:

i'm having issues w/ the DP, i don't have a B6 DP so i cut about 2-3" out of the B3 DP and now the exaust is hitting the axel... grr. having other problems too... i havn't sleapt in 2 days i want my car on the road lol. I know the B3 DP was way too tall, so i cut it so it would be right, clamped it to the B6 DP bracket under the oil pan, and it rubs real bad now on the axel. but since i've cut it i can't really make it longer! not sure what i'm going to do yet

2 great things about living in West Virginia. 1.The roads are perfect for taking a car to it's limits. 2.The cops could not care less if you have absolutely no tail pipe and no cat. Oh, and no emissions inspection period.

My festy has nothing from the the cat back in the way of pipe. I cruise through town every day to get to work and they have never pulled me over.

Sounds mean. Get's a head-turn and a laugh everywhere I go.
