my (almost) finished grill and light bar.

i went to the junkyard and found a 90-93 grill. and i remember seeing that you could chop the center out of them. i took it one step better (IMO) and made a "lip" on the bottom of it. im not done yet but it will be black like my hood and have silver/alum. mesh behind it. here is some pics...






now my light bar... it is only half done... it will have 2 more of the same lights on it. they are 7 inch 100watt lights.

this is even with a bad batt. and not a "good" contact on the connectors.... the camara is not even in its beam...its is gonna make night time driving SO much better....

the wiring harness is just about done. it has 2 "8" gauge/awg wires for power and ground. the 2 relays will be up on the bar and there is also 6 signal wires going up there too. 2 of them will be for the lights and the rest are for what ever i think of later... maby more lights lol... im also putting 2 cb/vhf raido antenna wires up there for the raidos when i get them...

let's say it's easy as PIE (P=IxE)
P= 100w
I= ?
E= 14.4v (SAE spec for rating wattage/power consumption)

so (100w = I x 14.4v), which translates to (I = 100w/14.4v)
solve for I; 100/14.4 = 6.94444...., or roughly 7amps

Therefore, your total load is 14A for two 100w lamps (peak load at cold-fire will be slightly higher for a few milliseconds). Now, depending upon the length of the conductor between power source and the load, the wire gauge may vary slightly. However, for runs less than 10ft in length, a single 18ga wire would carry sufficient current, without significant voltage drop. Personally, I prefer a single 16ga, or two 18ga wires for less change of light corrosion (over time) causing any real voltage drop.

Now, with all that said; nice work and looking good!

i worked out that the lights take about 8.4 amps ea. 100watt divided by 12volts = 8.333 amps now times 4 = 33.6
i was told a 8ga. wire can take 45 amps and a 10ga. wire can take 30 amps... so i went with the 8ga. also if i want to stick anymore lights on there ill have the extra amps

One question, Why are you putting the relays on the roof? You could have put them where your power wires connect inside the car somewhere, that way you wouldn't have to run all those signal wires up there.

the amount of wire going up there is smaller if i have just two big wires than 4 smaller ones. you have to remember that all the covers on the wires take up alot of room too.

i live in a little town called langley.... we have about 5 people here... lol jk.... when ever i drive home from work there is a copple roads where there is no cars and it is very dark. i like to be able to see at night. then i can see if there is any deer on the road or what ever...

i know that but i think 100 watts will do for now.... maby later ill put HID's in there and lights the trees on fire as i go by... lol

not including the 4 led's i have in my headlights.... yes.... and dont forget about the 2 reverse lights on the rear..... my alternator must HATE me lol... but im getting a big one when i do my motor swap, so its all good!!!
