  • Sun Festiva Decal!!! ughhhh

So i decided that i didn't like this decal on the side of my festiva...so i tried removing it. i used a heat gun and it slowly started coming off...it took forever and i've only gotten about 1/4 done with one side of the car! I worked on it for like 3 hours today. then my mom came out yelling at me saying that i can't use the heat gun near the gas tank like that. so now i'm stuck in rut! i don't know how to get the rest of the decal off without using the heat gun around the gas tank. Any ideas??

Get a nylon (or plastic putty knife) and grab hold of the decal with your fingers and use the nylon putty knife to slowly work it off.

Not if you use the plastic or nylon one and by the way, welcome to the forum. Just be careful and try it, but i dont think it will scratch car like a metal one. I've used the nylon ones before, and when you get decal off, maybe use a little goo-b-gone to get stickyness off. Just try it on small spot first and see what it does. I'm sure some of the other guys may have some more ideas.

Only metal ones would do that. You might try softening the decal with WD-40 or something more specific to removing these things. I've found WD-40 to do well though; just let it sit for a few minutes to soak in.

Eraser wheels are at body parts supply stores; you use them with a drill, at low speed. But for a job that big, I would recommend WD-40/plastic scraper/elbow grease.

I feel your pain, I have these stupid ugly silver stripes on my red car that are sun baked on. Useing the heat gun on the side of your car won't cause the gas tank to explode. But the scraper with WD-40 should work OK for you. They do make a decal remover spray but it works about the same as WD-40.
