  • mostly gutted festiva.... numbers inside

spent a couple hours tearing out what i dont need in the festy tonight, it will be a time attack car next year

    heres what i removed :

    spare tire & cover
    jack
    all seats
all plastic panels (NOT including door panels)
    speakers
    seat belts
    all carpet
    glove box
    ash tray
    floor mats
    center console
    shifter boot
    door sill plates

AND including all the nuts, bolts and screws off all the removed stuff, it was a total weight loss of .......... 171 LBS !!!

i still have the following to remove

    radio
    hvac control
    heater core
    blower motor/fans /duct work etc
    hatch strut

the door panels and oem dash are staying to allow me to run it in super street class

im super happy with the amount of weight that came out of it, ideally Id love to be under 2000 LBS with me in it at the end of the day, and im only 150 so it might be doable !

you were under 2000 with you in it before removing anything. The car weighs 1800lbs without you.

      tow hooks

      Unbolt the front tow hooks.
Unbolt & cut off the rear towhooks.
Remove the hoisting eyes on the engime.
Trash the cat. (Platinum sure is heavy).

What else can he take off?
      Anyone?

tow hooks have to stay as per the rulebook

it will have a BP in it which im sure weights a bit more then a B3, also bigger brakes, front control arms, and rear axle that will all increase the weight of the car.... lots of fab work

and yes my exhaust will consist of nothing but pipe and a glasspack

                    Gutted?

The rear side windows are flat and easy to replace with lexan without being too obvious.
You can cut out the supports for the rear seats.
                    Ditch the washer fluid bottle.
Remove side marker housings, glue lenses in place for appearance and drag.
                    Ditch the 3rd brake light.
                    Ditch windshield wipers.
Ditch the stock fuel tank and get a small fuel cell. Gas is 6lbs/gallon and time attack runs shouldn't need more than a gallon or two.
Remove the plastic bumpers, remove metal bumpers, make lightweight brackets to hold plastic bumpers in place.(not recommended unless you have a full cage)
If you want to get extreme, there's about 20 lbs of wiring you don't really need for a track car.
If you want to get REALLY extreme, there's probably 10 lbs of sound damping gunk on the floors.

thanks ! im very interested to know

oxbrian - youre right about the fuel cell, i'll have to look into the rules because im trying to keep it in super street, the next class is unlimited and i would have to run with exotics etc. I dont want to do that,

but so far so good... I'll post up some pics as i work on the car if you guys are interested

EDIT- i made this thread for the locals http://www.fordfestiva.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=24738

if its worth anyone to drive hear and take any of the parts ive removed please do, id rather give them away for the sake of someones festy longevity then throw anything in the garbage

Cut the crush bars out of the doors and the mounts for the passenger seat, lose that right side mirror. Ditch the front and rear rebars if this is not going to be a DD.

Should get you too the 250 pound mark

You can cut out those braces on each side of the spare tire well....un-bolt/ cut off the tow hooks.
