I would do the testing on another one from the wreckers and just toss it if it doesn't work.
I guess I will have to order the Kia pride steering wheel with the airbag now that I have the airbag warning labels all over my visors now.

I forgot about the sensors. I won't bother doing this install. Besides. the only Kia shop manuals I have ever seen are on CD.

My electrical connectors arrived from Eastern Beaver in Japan. I ordered an assortment of one, two, three, four and six terminals. The small black ones are for the visor lights.

I am also going to mount the Mini side visor as well. Since I am not using the motorized seat belt tracks, they are looking awfully good to drill into.

started wiring

Well, I went into the garage and started wiring my visors. It turns out, that I will have to run a separate line down the right hand A-pillar. The circuit has to be always hot and non-dimmable. I tested the mirror lights and they sure are pretty. One thing for sure, as soon as I take the dash off, I will splice in two under dash lights into the circuit that travels up the left hand A-pillar. The Escort dome light is definitely insufficient by itself. The connectors from Eastern Beaver make for very neat and professional electrical wiring job. I need seven of those plastic wire retainers that go up the A-pillars.

epoxy

I finally did the epoxy dip on the mirror ball last night.
Even though I only needed 16m or .630", I ended up with approximately, .655".
After sanding it down with some mesh plumber's emery cloth, it had just the proper amount of bite for the plastic socket.

Now the Smart mirror does not have any after travel following adjustment, as it did when I used tape.
The mission was a success.

No pics yet. Mirror works perfect. Nice and firm. Just enough tension for adjusting it into position by hand. It also gives a better view out the rear hatch. You think it was stock!

I am going to the junk yard tomorrow with my knife and metal snips. I am going to cut open a couple of Escort headliners and pull out seven pillar wire clips. I'll take a picture after I reinstall the headliner.

It's supposed to be sunny and just above freezing. Still no snow. Perfect scavenging weather.

Why don't you join me and have the only other Smart mirrored Festiva?
There's one for sale on the Bay in your own backyard. Surrey! I have an extra Festiva mirror base and lots of epoxy. I can prep one for you. Let me know.

Because I already bought that Kia/Hyundai one off you that looks so pretty! I haven't installed it yet but it looks great. Besides, I have plenty of things to buy off you already haha... let me know when that second shipment shows up from Europe and if/when you're ready to talk seats/doorpanels.

Just when I thought I was almost finished, I found a mirror base in one of my bins. Although it is the exact same size and dimensions as a Festiva, it is a dark grey and does not have a cheesy black plastic cover. It snaps on with a hook on the back. Maybe someone here can identify which car it came from?
I will dip both of the 15mm pivot balls in epoxy to accept 16mm pivot Smart mirrors.

I am only half a happy camper. The lights in the Mini Cooper vanity visors glow beautifully. However, I just discovered that if the mirrors are not in the upright position, the lights remain on, even though the protective plastic door is closed. I suspect a mercury switch is used within.
You must remember to never leave them down if you wire them to the white/red always hot power wire, like I did.

I have a jaguar x type. The visors from it looks like that would fit perfect as they are very small, are nice quality and have the lighted mirrors on both sides. Can be had in eBay for ~$23 shipped each.
