Ya i've been wating HID's for a while just haven't got around to getting a set

    1988 323 Station Wagon - KLG4 swapped
    1988 323 GT - B6T Powered
2008 Ford Escape - Rollover Survivor

1990 Festiva - First Ever Completed KLZE swap (SOLD)

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

HID only when you are using high beams....
I'd never known about lights like that.....that's ideal, really. We see better and nobody gets bright-eyed. Brilliant!

^ I've also never heard or seen a setup like that. I guess it is possible as long as you have 2 bulbs ( a halogen for your lows and a xenon for your highs). My Porsche had xenon low beams and a halogen high beams. However, on highs, the xenon bulbs stayed on and the projector lens would aim a bit higher.
Do you have a picture of the actual bulbs?

Now if you have bulbs like this

I could see having halogen lows but can only find halogen high's

This kit I dont even understand

it takes about 25k volts to excite the xenon then something like 35w to continue the process. There is no Add more juice to make it brighter so I'm thinking the following...

          1. They are halogen lows with HID highs
          2. They are HID lows with halogen highs
          3. The larger larger base of the plug in the second link moves the bulb to where the highs would be. i.e. little servo, linear actuator, solenoid.

And as someone who has caravan-ed with doug at night I will say I still hate those lights. They are darn annoying to be in front of. I've told him its like someone MIG welding in the background, that same "dont look but its too bright not too" sensation.

          BTW I need sleep
and it seems like some manufacturers are using xenon to shield the tungsten filament in what is basically halogen bulb with xenon gas.

Yes I kinda know a bit about the whole HID thing as its cool techie stuff like LED's that appeals to my inner nerd. An other member and myself are currently working on a proper HID projector setup for festiva's.

Lol....ok I may be calling them the wrong thing....I do not know all the terms associated with hid's. All I do know is that the low beams are normal beams....halogen I guess from your explanation. The highs are HID....there is a ballast for each side and when you switch to highs you can see from the vids that if the highs were not on for a while....they start off really low and brighten up to full beam. If you are flipping them on and off....they start immediately.
There is a socket that the original plug goes into that has wire coming from it that power the ballasts and regular lights.

I know on Dougs lights that his bulb slides to give him high and low beams and that they only connect to one of the original plugs and that powers both sides.
Mine have two long skinny bulbs....one is longer with some kind of wire running along the outside of it.
Sorry Kemp....I did not think to get pics of the bulbs themselves.

OK the one with the wire on the outside is the HID one. Should be a little glass "ball" inside of the bulb. ok Just if/when you think of it I'd like a pic. You have any brand names or anything?

well....here are some pics I took Kemp....hope it helps...but the ballast is used in other applications so it is not the part number of what I have.....plus I took some better pics of the lights on low and high....

Hey Kemp....was wondering what you thought about this...I searched google and found this site....it sells the ballasts I got and also some 50 watt ones. Do you think if I got the 50 watters that I could replace my 35's and have even brighter lights? Or would the lights have to be matched to them....

So if that halogen bulb burns out , can you just replace it?

nope....but they sell just bulb replacements on the bay for $20.00 a pair. That is way cheaper then a set of silver star ultras at $49.00
