    Don't do it!
These are acrylic and the thermal decomposition and partial oxidative by products are toxic.
It could well coat your lungs with low molecular weight oxidized polymer and pass lower molecular weight toxins directly into your blood stream.

        Yeah, I know!

However, if you want to give your lens a smoked look try this:

Discuss enhancing your Festiva or Aspire interior and exterior (including custom paint, bodywork, seats, etc)

I heard of using VHT or even tinting the lenes with tint. VHT you can find by googleing it. It takes some time and I thought about doing but I have yet to try.

DJ did a thread on removing the lens, I just can't find it.
He used a heat gun and tried hot water to soften the adhesive, I think.
            Still looking for the thread.
Got to be 3-4, or more years ago.

The VHT paint works excellent. Packrat427 used it on his and looks great and has held up for a couple years now.

I smoked my lights didn't even take them apart.
Hears what they look like before and after.

Just buy a can of night shade from advance auto parts like 13 bucks. I did my corner lights and bumper ones with it as well looks great.

                          sonic weld

A lot of plastic parts for automotive applications are bonded together by ultrasonic plastic welding machines. This is the case for taillights.

That is true, and I hate to hear them when they're running.
But the rear tail lights on the festiva are held together with some sort of adhesive. Given that DJ was able to separate the lens from the reflector assembly using boiling water I'm betting it's some sort of hot melt adhesive.
