I just open and close mine without the key, the junk on our cars is so flimsy. Now with gas prices climbing again I'm starting to worry about a vulnerable gas cap (hoping someone stealing gas doesnt know the uses of a 14mm to do so). I got the lever/cable assy. from a merc tracer. Looks like a simple installation.

I have to do this. It's the perfect solution for opening the door after the lock is shaved off.

Any 323 (Or Protege maybe?) with a trunk should do. IIRC John got his out of a Protege.

ok, the popper for the trunk, does it actually pop the trunk or does it just unlock it?

Depends where you mount it. mine would pop the hatch reguardless if its locked - however I noticed on the stock latch there is a provision for a unlock clip

Tom (tomino) doesn't know it yet but i borrowed a small magnet from his car at gregs (eurotiva) and it holds my door closed great! i just put it where it hits the mount on the door and it opens and closes by pushing on the back of the door... I shaved the lock of course but couldn't you leave it open? Or would the key not come out if it is open? There is no handle so if somebody went to open it without knowing they would think there was a latch inside..

Uh, those where my magnets, so Tom could remove the crud in his 323's cooling system.
The crud happened to be magnetic and those high strength magnets would have helped clean the cooling system.
But, if you've put one to good use then that's enough for me.

that last link is pretty rigged up IMO, why cant a regular popper be taken out of a car, like my 96 kia sephia (R.I.Pieces) had one with a latch that retracted when the handle was pulled. the latch run through a hollow bolt mount

Ya, I believe that any system would work, but obtaining one out of a 323 might bolt in better.
