So all power mirrors fold back? Just swoopies can stay collapsed?
It's been awhile since I had my '89 LX, but yes I think all power mirrors fold in but "swoopies" stay colapsed.

Can do. What are "tabbed mirror motor housings" exactly. There are quite a few Protege's around here. Wish there were that many Festiva's around. I actually like the Festiva mirrors better, as they are slightly smaller. Since I cant find any, I am going with the Protege mirrors. I plan on forming the leading edge to fit the window curve too. Will have to fill edge with JB Weld to keep it smooth and factory looking.

                plastic with tabs

I only want the plastic half of the motor housing that has the tabs or ears.

When you peek in to the protege mirrors. Check that both ears are intact. If so, just revove the screw out of the bottom drain hole, carefully lift the ears off of the inner diecasting where it is hanging, cut the wires with a pair of pliers, pull the mirror straight off from the motors, take out the pin on the back and the three screws that holds the two halfs together, throw out the mirror and the motors and I will pay you for the half with both tabs (ears). I've got the operation down to about 3 minutes per mirror.
It is the ears that break off due to narrow cross-section. Out of about 40 Proteges, I only found 1 left and three rights that had both ears intact.

Also good for gaining enough space to walk between cars in the garage without bumping the mirrors.

What about fixing the tabs? I looked at my Protege mirrors, and the drivers side mirror had a broken tab on the housing. I fixed it with a small strip of aluminum and 5 minute epoxy. My computer is down (i'm writing from work) and I cant get to my photo's, or I would supply a pic. Basically I bent a piece of alum. to make a new ear with slot, cleaned, sanded the alum. and the plastic, cleaned again, glued the alum strip to housing and its stronger than original ear tabs. If you want pics, I will try to get some.
