Just finished installing my new Tach Cluster in 'Tiva. Worst part of the job was re-routin' the speedo cable. Pain in the ..uh.. neck! Everything works perfect. And it DID happen , pics in my profile album- 'Tiva After. 'Tiva idels at 600rpm. Manule says it should idel between 650-750. In place of the adjustment screw, there is a dash pot. How do I adjust the idel? Thanks for all the info from ya'll, makes things easier for us Festy noobs!

Did the mileage of the different clusters match up, or what did you do for that?

I have not done this yet but it is very soon my intent to install an already purchased tach cluster. While stripping an Aspire at Christmas time I noticed it's B3 speedo cable was not only compatible but about 2 inches longer than that of a Festiva. The nylon gear at the transmission is a different colour (pink instead of white, ie different number of teeth?) but the whole setup ought to make hooking up a tach cluster easier if in fact Festiva cables are a tad short. Anyone else care to comment on this? By the way, an orange gauge cluster (the 1988 one I have anyway) has a removable night light fixture with clear lens and 2 lamp bulbs whereas a non tach white cluster (from 1992-3) has a green lens and 4 lamps. This is readily switched over (but you will have to lengthen a few lamp wires) with nothing but a phillips screwdriver and a soldering gun. I'll post some photos when I attempt this. Green backlight on orange letters may turn out to be stupid. It escapes me why manual transmission econoboxes don't automatically come factory equipped with tachometers. On 1960s peepot cars (Austin Minis) you ran the motor until the valves began to float but now a days (20 year old cars) all you can expect to hear is pistons coming up through the block if you over-rev.

There two cylindrical electrical connectors on the back of each cluster, with or without a tach, no matter what year.'93 Blue 5spd 230K(down for clutch and overall maintanence)

I see someone posted to disconnect the speedo cable from the transmission.
Does this allow you to pull the cluster out enough to disconnect the cable from the back? I tried pulling the cluster awhile back to look at the lighting (I want to make it brighter) but couldn't get to the speedo cable.~Austin
