  • Cargo Area Light

Installed a CAL awhile ago. Can't get it to work. Checked wireing, no breaks I can find. New bulb. Tried bigger hammer, nothing helps. I do not have a multimeter yet.:cussing:
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

    Doc,
Sorry to hear a bigger hammer didn't work....perhaps you could try a Kimber Classic. Just saying...it's the electrical gremlins that get me every time.

Did you install the latch with the wire on it too? I don't think it works unless you have that latch. Could maybe try grounding that wire and testing to see what makes it work.

Ha! Don't have a Kimber, but I do have a Springfield. Too close to gas tank, but thanks for the suggestion. I installed the one with the switch, not the one with the latch switch( did that make any sence?). Things start and stop workin' on a regular basis. Hazard switch didn't work until I took dash apart. didn't do anything to switch now it works. The windshield wiper switch where you push forward didn't work ,now itdoes. Weird stuff. Turn on dome light & buzzer comes on.:banghead:

They're relatively inexpensive. That or a test light would work just to know if you're getting voltage at all.

Grab another relay from the junkyard and clean the switch in the dome light!
I bet you can do that if you've installed AC yourself
I understand it's fun to put up with your car's "personality" sometimes too though

I have to get some soldering + modifications done on my spare latch.
The young guy at a non-upick yard said the latch had to remain with the hatch. All he gave me was half of the contact. I have to resolder the wire on and solder a copper extension onto the existing half. It must contact the arm which is in the open position in the picture.

I didn't know that was possible...just the harness or engine as well?

isn't is a blue/red wire and a green one? I haven't looked at these in SO long...but I do remember that the wires are switched that you connect them to. They don't correspond. Do a search for it, or check some of Skeeters threads as he may have commented on it. I could also take a few pics of his CAL and wiring as well...

I'll ask nate to post a pic when he gets home and send him the link. there's only a couple wires back there and if you switch them it might work but it doesn't help that I don't recall the exact wires. lol. hopefully nate can post.
