Okay , let me see if i've got this right. If I open the panel on the inside of the hatch( where the latch/lock is) and ground the blue wire my cargo light should work? I don't want to switch the latch & drill a holr for the switch. I'm lazy!:toothy9:

1) The blue wire is under the 'tarp tape' in the hatch. Just pop off the hatch cover and peel back the vapor barrier. The blue tarp tape has a single wire connector for the blue wire. Ground that and your cargo lamp will have ground and power at all times.
2) 12V will not shock you. Your coil, however, will!-Zack

Another place to look is in the passenger's side rear access panel to the tail light. On the harness should be a two wire connector with white/red and blue/green and that's what would go to your cargo light. It's about 18" long.
The white/red wire should have +12v and the blue/green wire would get a ground from the hatch latch.Last edited by crazyrog17; 04-08-2011, 02:48 PM.-Zack

nice navdoc! glad to see you got it going. I never was able to drive up to nate's place to look at his hatch light. it's a really simple procedure which you found out.
I want to formally apologize to gomez about my comments on "threadjacking" or "going in a different direction" than what navdoc had asked help for. Sorry for the frustration Gomez. I'm glad we sorted things out I've never doubted the helpfulness of this forum
Plus, I wasn't just thinking of gomez, but bravekozak and anyone else adding the good info in there. As far as what I had to say, We've discussed very similar subjects here but I made my comments for the sake of organization and ease of finding info quickly. Making threads per each specific subject or even different aspects/issues with similar/same parts/components/upgrades really help people source issues and fixes with ease.
we also discussed making a thread specifically for the hatch latch switch & wiring that was discussed earlier in this thread. there's LOADS of excellent info there. I'll be looking for some threads on that soon
