  • Pontaic Montana seats

I was walking around a P&P yard and I spotted some cool looking seats that I would like to put in the Festy!
They were in a Pontiac Montana. They are Captain chairs that have the folding armrests on each side. Smallest of this type I have seen.
Gray cloth with removable and PIVOTING headrests !
The ones I am interested in are the 2nd row seats. Exactly like the front electric seats, but are manual.
They 1 inch wider in the seat area, but the rails are 2 inches narrower.
The armrests are recessed somewhat so they dont stick out like most armrests on Captain chair's.
Only pic I could find of them. Not same color as the ones I saw. Were closer to the Festy cloth seat pattern.

    Same seats in pleather/leather

No clue, but I would just use the seat and not the Montana base, so I would suspect pretty much the same, maybe 1-2 lbs more at most.
Pretty close to the size of the festy seat.
I would put the Montana seats in front by cutting the Montana base off, and welding brackets meet to up with the festy rails
I have $53 and change credit with p&p, so that will cover most of the cost of the seats.
I might look around more, but armrests while hiway driving would be sweet.

...and those headrests! When I said pivot, I prolly should have said ...tilting headrest.
They push forward for a true HEAD rest! Friction held in place, and can be pushed right where ya want 'em!
They only push back far enough to not interfere with your head and still maintain anti-whiplash protection.

Any seat can be made to fit in any car; providing that you are willing to devote a lot of time to this. If you have to slam the door just to compress the seat-side cushions enough to carry on with your day you know you're attempting to put 'big boy' upholstery into a mini car. Freebie seats are enticing (I do know that feeling, and very well!) but a simple and sobering measuring tape will tell you whether you're flogging a dead horse or not.

1 inch wider in the seat area than the festy seat. Got 2 inches between festy seat and door now. Should fit.

I didnt use a tape. I used a piece of string.

I will check on that when I go back to the yard. Hopefully one day this week. I want to do some measuring, and who knows, I might start pulling them!

That's so awesome. I really hope they fit and can't wait to see them installed

I had split 60/40 front seats out of a 76 Lincoln Continental in my 78 Bronco. It had the fold down arm rests and all too. My gawd they were so comfortable and a life saver on long road trips.

I just checked some 4 runner seats and they would not fold flat..quite. Do these fold all the way down?

I think you can add much larger seats than you think to the Festiva because the car is so unsafe there's a lot more room I would say midsize cars offers seats that works just fine but of course do the measurements

Good question!!!! I do not know. I will have to check for that! But as stated in an earlier post, anything can be made to fit!
I would imagine if a seat doesnt go all the way back, there is a "stop" on the seat, or an interference point somewhere, and can be modded to lay down.

would be interesting to see this done as there are plenty of Montana vans in yards.
would you be using the rear seat also?

OKAY!!!! Went to the yard yesterday, did some measuring/investgating on the seats. It is looking good on the seat swap. Looks to be enough room to fit them for sure.

Movin asked if they fold flat. YES, they do!!!! There is a rotating knob type handle on the side that when cranked puts the seat in any positon, including all the way back.
I will be getting these friday when I am off work. Hope they are still there by then!

If'n I get them. I will post a thread with what I do to get them in the Festy.

                              EDIT:
Oh yeah, the knob handle is on the "wrong" side, for me at least, as I have the Escort console, and the knobs as installed in the Montana face towards center of vehicle. To install, they will have to be facing towards the outside of the Festy(between door and seat). I think swapping the seats for that will be no problem. That is IF you have the Escort/Protege console installed.
If you have the Festy console, the seats can be put in any ol' way.
