Window Tint Tips?

Legal where I live is 32%. Anything darker is pretty well an automatic ticket. Of course as with most places, it depends on the cop, and city as to how strictly they enforce it.

Heat gun ? you don't shrink it, you cut it to size after you lay it on.

If your interested I have some precut window tint for Festivas. I paid $30 off off Ebay, but will take $20 shipped since your the next state over. I sold my other Festiva before I got a chance to install it. Pm if interested.

I've decided I agree with the guy on youtube that does this for a living. Gila tint sucks massive testes.

Everything I experienced is exactly what he describes as issues with the film. The adhesive sucks, the film doesn't want to shrink correctly, and it's just crap quality in general.

Turns out I can get hopefully decent tint from precutautotint.com for WAY less than what I paid for the Gila manure. Like the whole car costs the same as 2 boxes of Gila.

So I will try it again, and I WILL do the hatch glass with 1 freakin' piece so help me John. lol

If you want a professional job have a professional do it. Otherwise it will never be perfect. The pre cut tint is better but you still have to have to apply it perfectly. I've never been happy with my tint that I put on. When I have it tinted the car always looks better.

The only gila tint that is ok is the static not heat reflective tint. It is purely aesthetic and really doesn't look good up close. I like it on my car though because at 10 feet it looks like I have a nice tint lol

I agree. I'm fortunate that my next door neighbor does window tinting as a second job out of his house and hooks me up. He usually does a few cars on a Saturday and about one car every other week day and I go over there and watch him sometimes. He's being doing it for 30 years and he said it took him quite sometime and a lot of wasted tint to learn all the tricks and he still has trouble on some vehicles with funky shaped windows once in a while.

Yeah, I'm nearly positive I can do it as pro as anyone with decent tint. I came close on the hatch glass with poo paper, so with something that shrinks right and sticks where you put it I shouldn't have a problem.

I used this stuff and it turned out pretty dang good. I screwed up the back windshield, but I had never
done it before that. The second window turned out good and they got progressively better. I do wish
they had a 15% tint though. I'm going to ask them about it and I'll see what they say.

For my back window I used 6 inch strips came out way better. But I can pick out the lines. But I'm picky.

I actually tried a strip kit with 6" strips also from Gila. They didn't want to stick either, and fingers popped up from the curvature of the glass.

When I did the quarter glass I was able to shrink it and fit it pretty good, but just like in the video fingers kept popping up even after I shrunk it. And the next day there were water pockets all over both pieces, again like he mentioned, it wants to hold the water rather than let it come out.

Lesson learned. Don't buy Gila.

I'm all for doing it yourself, but my neighbor only charges me $100 including tint, so it's not worth the aggravation to even try.
