  • Auto dimming, Compas and Temperature rear view mirror

Went to the salvage yard. From an early 90's Saturn, got a auto dimming, compass and temp. rear view mirror for my '93 Festiva. mirror.jpg
Do not get the one w/ OnStar! And don't forget to grab the temp sensor from behind the lower grille.images9AHGYN8I.jpg
The factory wiring runs from the mirror all the way to the back under the headliner. Get as much of the wiring harness as you can.
Only four tiny little wires to hook up.
Yellow = power w/ ign. on wire.
    Black = Ground
Gray wire and Grn. w/ blk stripe wire = to temp sensor.
Green = to back up light power. (Optional)
Remove existing mirror. Up to you what you do with the hole in the headliner. I put the mount cover back on to cover the hole.
With the special mirror mounting glue kit, locate and glue on the metal mirror mount.
Install the mirror and run the wires.
To calibrate the compass, just find a parking lot and drive in a few circles.
    WORKS GREAT!

Nice. Do the visors hit the mirror when you put them down?

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

I was thinking a digital compass display would be great for night driving without a GPS. The spot where the dash clock is located, would be ideal. I have already checked some rare junkyard cars, if their dash displays would fit. Unfortunately, they are a little too wide because they are multipurpose with buttons.

Still no pictures your killing me!
I was going to use a f150 compass/temp over head display but it's too big . I wanted it in the dash clock place. Toyota has one the would fit the dash clock spot I believe but it's only temp and time.

                Additional comments to mirror install

NO. Does not interfere with the visors. Perfect fit.
This mirror is larger in size than the little Festiva mirror, but you get used to it.
Also, since the Festiva mirror mounts to the roof, and the replacement mounts to the windshield, do a dry fit before you glue on the metal mounting piece.
Keep it as far up as you can and still have room to put the mirror onto the mounting tab.
Also, what to do with the 'hole' left in the headliner when you remove the Festiva mirror.
I simply put the plastic cover back on. Was thinking of a small led light and wire it into the door lights, only need a small 20 gage wire......maybe later.
                I'll post a pic tomorrow.

Does not interfere with sun visors at all.
