Hatch cover fix / tach cluster issues

Can anyone show me some up close pictures of how their hatch cover works?
Mine doesn't appear to have the string to hold it up on the posts, but it does
have a string running through the lower side of the panel (when raised).



I also have a tach cluster that the needle falls below zero when the car is off
so when you turn the car on the RPM's sit a little below zero. It appears the
needle registers the tach. Do I just put a black painted finish nail in there at
zero so it cant fall any lower or is there a proper way to fix this?

Here's currently what I have. Not sure what's supposed to go where, but it looks
like I'm missing a set of strings to hold it up on the posts in the hatch. I have no
clue what the lower string would be for though. I tried pulling it out, but it's stuck
in there, leading me to believe it was built that way.

I have removed a speedo pointer from an instrument cluster using a small pickle fork for prying it up. Put down a piece of cloth to protect the flat black paint.

Mmmm...what do you mean? You used the speedo on the tach needle?

Do you have the proper hardware for your cargo cover? The hatch pins pivot in the hardware brackets that screw into the speaker shelves.
The strings are supposed to be above the cargo cover in order to loop onto the hatch-moumted plastic spools. The hatch lifts the cargo cover up when it is opened.

Use the search engine for hatch cover operation pics. Sorry, I don't have a hatch cover or rear seat. I need room for my golf clubs.

Your shelf should have 2 holes in it for the strings.
Mine didn't have any when I got it.
I just bought some at a fabric/hobby store & made my own.
Its black braided line + clamps.

As far as I know its all there. I know the cover clips into the speaker parts already. The clips
that support it on the hatch are a bit broken, but still there. The pegs that sit in the door that
hold the strings are there. I'm just confused why there is a set of strings in the rear with loops
that seem too short to do anything but none on the front side.

Dang, that sounds cool. Should hold up for freakin ever too. I'll give that a shot.
Probably turned out cleaner looking than the strings anyway.

the string running thru the width of the shelf with loops. the looped ends get attached to a T shaped clip screwed onto the rear plastic trunk trim panel. don't know why. safety in event of collision or so you don't lose the shelf? otherwise, unnecessary for shelf operation. qwik tip: black shoe paste will recondition faded lift strings quickly and last a long time.

Yeah, that's weird. I'll have to have a look at that tonight as I drove the Insight to work.
