That's basically what this Krylon stuff is, it's a red translucent paint. They have several colors.

Last night i also looked into tinting the reverse lights with the niteshades i ahve sitting around, but it just didn't look like i'ld ahve liked. One thing i have noticed with initial tests is that the turn signal will iluminate a nice red, i was worried about this with a top-coating but it looks like it'll turn out great. I'll try and even get some video of the flashers on once they're done.

Where did you get the Krylon at? Do places like Advance and Autozone have it?

Nope, and i couldn't find it at the chain stores like Wal-mart either. I ended up finding it at the local craft super-store "Michaels".

I'll be taking pics here shortly and posting them up.

              New pics

Now as i stated these still have to go off for clear coat so please excuse the lack of sheen, the Krylon paint doesn't leave a very impressive gloss, but i wasn't expecting one.

The one in the background is a stocker, but is dull because it's been sanded as part of my tests(remeber i was experimenting on the bad set first first).

So What you see is a stock orane and red lens in the rear(the before) and the coated orange and red lenses in the foreground(the after)

              ***********************************

Note: I did both tails at once even though i refer to them in the singular at times. I recomend doing both at once as it's harder to accidently miss a step on one and not the other.

              ***********************************

My process started with a set of stock early style smooth tails.

I then took to sanding all the raised lettering off of them with 200 grit wet/dry paper for the ultra-smooth look i love so much, this also removed any wear marks on the tails.

I then wet sanded the entire tail with 400 grit, leaving a nice scuffed surface for the coating to adhear to.

Before spraying i wet sanded the reverse lens with 600 grit leaving the propper scuff for my painter to clear over, then taped it and the rest of the housing off leaving the red and orange tails exposed.

A quick wipe-down with a tack cloth and i was ready to spray.

Using this product: Krylon "Stained Glass".

I layed down one wet coat over both exposed lenses leaving a smooth finish easily lightly scuffed for clear-coating and free of any debris in the paint. Be carefull here, if you go to heavy on the coating you will get a run and you'll be starting all over after removing what youv'e done with some paint thinner and rags.

I let it cure overnight and the next day peeled the tape off of only the reverse lenses and leaving the rest of the housing covered. These are now ready for clear.
