I just recieved a pair of fog lights as an early gift from a friend. They are a twin bulb type, one bulb lights as a colored parking lamp, the other is the fog lamp. I took a look at the wiring instructions, but I don;t like what I am seeing. It said to attach directly to the pos. terminal on the battery. and that you may or may not need a fuse.
anyhow, this is what I was thinking, I am going to tap into the low beams wire (blue and red?). that way I can leave them on in the parking mode, and they will turn on to that whenever my lights are on, thus no worry of leaving them on, meanwhile if I need the fogs I'll just flip the switch and there ya go. It won't really matter that I won't be able to turn on the fogs when the high beams are on, cause I most likely won' need them in that situation.
my questions are as follows,
does this seem right?
Am I correct in my thinking that the low beam wire only recieves power when they are turned on?
Is this likely to cause any problems with the fuses for my lowbeam bulbs?
How should I tap into the wire to get a good connection. I don;t have much electrical experience, so what type of connectors should I get to make it happen? I don;t like the idea of just cutting the wire, and then splicing in soldering and then taping. what are my options or a really secure type of connection that will withstand the elements?
also, how do I remove one of the button blanks in the dash to make a space for the switch? do they just get forced out? or is ther some sort of finesse required?
thanks a lot in advance,
chris ganger
