  • fog lights

I just recieved a pair of fog lights as an early gift from a friend. They are a twin bulb type, one bulb lights as a colored parking lamp, the other is the fog lamp. I took a look at the wiring instructions, but I don;t like what I am seeing. It said to attach directly to the pos. terminal on the battery. and that you may or may not need a fuse.
anyhow, this is what I was thinking, I am going to tap into the low beams wire (blue and red?). that way I can leave them on in the parking mode, and they will turn on to that whenever my lights are on, thus no worry of leaving them on, meanwhile if I need the fogs I'll just flip the switch and there ya go. It won't really matter that I won't be able to turn on the fogs when the high beams are on, cause I most likely won' need them in that situation.
    my questions are as follows,

    does this seem right?

Am I correct in my thinking that the low beam wire only recieves power when they are turned on?

Is this likely to cause any problems with the fuses for my lowbeam bulbs?

How should I tap into the wire to get a good connection. I don;t have much electrical experience, so what type of connectors should I get to make it happen? I don;t like the idea of just cutting the wire, and then splicing in soldering and then taping. what are my options or a really secure type of connection that will withstand the elements?

also, how do I remove one of the button blanks in the dash to make a space for the switch? do they just get forced out? or is ther some sort of finesse required?

    thanks a lot in advance,

    chris ganger

run them off of a different switch, not off of your low beams. Run a 20 amp relay 10/15 amp fuse off of the main power from the relay to a aux switch mounted in the dash. Use one of the blank spots to put the switch in. The blanks pop out...use a small screwdriver.

there will still be the auxilliary switch that came with the set that wil switch on the fog lights, I am just trying to find a way that when I have my lights on that the accent lights will light without me needing to remember to throw a switch. is there a specific reason I should not hook into the headlights? Would there be another alternative that will allow the same sort of function?

"Run a 20 amp relay 10/15 amp fuse off of the main power from the relay"

I don't quite understand. remember I don't know that much about electrical parts. I guess I can follow about the relay and fuse, but what do you mean by off of the main power?

I ran mine off of a relay, came off of my parking lights to the relay , then the relay pulls power from the battery to run the fog lights.
