  • 13" or 15" wheels?

    Hi,

I just put some 185/60/13 tires on my 13" wheels. They rub on tight right turns.I also put some 195/45/15 on my 15" wheels. The front cleared without a problem.I did had to run spacers on the rear,I don't know the size of the spacer i'm using.I looks like they clear now.The problem was,That the tire sat on the rear strut. It was'nt much the car rolled but you could hear the tires rubbing.I'm going to drive around right now.I should get you the spacer size if some of you need it.Here are some pictures of the festiva.

Muttstiva looked like that when she was new. (With the stock steel wheels, that is.)

    Love those 15s!!

What's the offset on both your wheelsets? Inquiring minds probably would like to know.

The 13" i think the offset is 38.

The 15" have a 40 offset.I have no coilovers like gtr so my rear did not clear,I had to use almost an inch od spacer.

Are you still running the stock Festiva suspension?

My VW alloys are also 5.5" and 38mm offset. They fit fine, but my tyres are 165/70s.

        Thanks,

nice to see someone else sporting 15's! if you need clearance on the back try using an aspire strut, thats what i have and ive got no problems with cut springs...

well i didnt, as of this weekend im sporting coil-overs now  gunna try to run some 17's

actually for tires im even running bigger than you are, ive got 195/50r15's... i think i may have trimmed off a bit on the spring perch on my kyb's just because i was worried about clearance, but it never did rub...

So you sacrificed structural rigidity of the strut to put on bigger tires?!? Sounds like a good idea to me. Call me Fred but I think the more ghetto you make your car, the worse off you are... Safety to me is an integral part to me having fun pushing my car to the limit... -Kyle

considering that i maybe shaved off half of the 1/8" thick steel piece on one side? i think it should be quite safe, you realize the stairways in buildings you walk on everyday are concrete poured over 1/16th inch steel plates right  id know i build them everyday...

so i guess i shouldnt have clearanced my driverside frame rail to make room for the bp transmission? is that ghetto? i work in a steel shop for a living, but that doesnt mean im reccomending everyone go hacking away at things until they are paper thin just so they can fit pretty rims on. i had speed before i had tires. So does everyone who has anything bigger than 13's have a "ghetto" car? i guess im sorry but i tend to like the look of my tires actually filling my wheel wells... if you want to insult peoples cars, take it to the arena where i wont have to bother reading it, not in the tech sections...

i also stated i didnt have to actually clearance anything, it was more of peace of mind to save the sidewalls of a set of 80$ a piece tires... ive had it running and on for about a year now and everything was still in shape when i switched to coil-overs last weekend.

also the reason mine may not have rubbed was that i had the stiffer aspire rear axle... try adding a pipe in the middle with bolts going through each end to help stiffen things up and it might not rub anymore... just an idea.

good luck! and sweet rims they match the white car beautifully! i think a spooiler too would help make that thing look even hotter! nice ride though the way it is, i like the tint job, 35% fronts and 5% backs? or 5% all around? thats what my 1/4's are...

                  Thank's Ideal,

I have 35% up front and 5% on the other 3 windows.I am going to get a rear hatch spoiler for the festiva in a near future.I would also like to change to coilover and I will switch to aspire suspencion.I have this project and I also have my other project the DATSUN 280Z.

The festiva is running on the 15" wheel now I have no problem with rubbing anymore.

So apparently I don't have 14" rims/tires on my Festy... Not to mention the fact they cost a hell of a lot more than $80 a tire.. Not to mention I race mine, so I would know how the car flexes... Not to mention I didn't take off anything from my FESTIVA KYB Super spring perch and they fit fine (14"X6") 195/55/14 Kumho Victoracers (shaved). Whatever dude. I was trying to warn others of possibly following in your footsteps if they don't know what they are doing. "Shaving" pieces here and there, eventually the weakest point will show, I just hope it doesn't injure you or anyone driving around you... -Kyle

sorry then i guess i dont now anythng about festivas  its not like i dont race mine either, nor do i not have some nice expensive suspension parts...

by the way, im currently in college for automotive engineering (specifically the design of race and high performance parts) so i think i know how a car flexes too

datsun 280Z's rock! i had an old datsun (cant remember what it was though ) as a loaner car from a friend when i was doing work on my first festiva quite a few years back, that thing was pretty sweet... im not usually a fan of nissan, but the old school datsun's rule!

thats odd that your tint looks so good together, ive seen alot of setups with different % levels and it usually looks pretty crappy, it look that close in person too? i may have darkdan here on the board tiny my windows that way sometime soon...

I'm not trying to down you or your Festiva... I think having a BP Festy would be sweet, I'm just saying I don't agree with some of your methods and I just don't want someone who (doesn't know as much as you) to go hacking away at pieces which are vital for the car to ride and drive correctly. And once again do I really need to defend myself by stating I am and have been at Virginia Tech's Mechanical Engineering program for 3.5 years.. And just for your information, it is ranked within the top 10 in the nation for ME.. So please don't think that I am some BS kid. Out of curiosity, where are you studying Automotive Engineering?

And to stay on track, I love those white 15"s on a white Festy... It looks sweet, not to mention that intercooler poking out the front bumper  -Kyle

Tomorrow I'm lightening my engine block using my drill and a 1/2" bit. I figure about fifty or sixty holes in just the right spots will drop maybe ten pounds of unnecessary cast iron.

Plus, it will improve engine cooling!

Oh, and I have a Criminology degree and I'm certified in pepper spray. I bake a pretty good Carson Drew Cheesecake, too.*

I really want to make this setup work corectly.I don't like the idea of running spacer on my rear wheels.I would like to get some basic coilover system,What are you guys running,Is it honda coilovers on kyb gr2's?
If someone can help I would really apreciate it.

                              Hey GTR,
How is your project festiva doing?
I would like to see an update, once your done with it you won't want to buy anyone else's festiva.
