If everyone, especially suspension gurus, can read through this really carefully... then I'll post the finalized proof in a separate thread to make into a sticky! Notably, I'd like confirmation on brake lines and a solution for the e-brake, bhazard. Thanks!

--------------(Obviously this is for Aspire swaps only)

          Front Escort GT Brakes

Option One - Smaller 9.25" Brake Rotor, but completely bolt-on:
Brake Pads - Escort GT/Aspire (one and the same) - Porterfield R4S (#AP473)
Brake Rotors - Aspire Automatic - Wagner OEM (#BD61996)
Brake Calipers - Escort GT, Protege LX, or Protege 4x4 - Junkyard it up.
Wheels - You will need 14" wheels, but some hardcore 13" alloys will just clear them.

Option Two - Bigger 10.25" Brake Rotor, but custom bracket required:
Brake Pads - Escort GT/Aspire (one and the same) - Porterfield R4S (#AP473)
Brake Rotors - Escort GT, Protege LX, or Protege 4x4 - Wagner OEM (#BD61992)
Brake Calipers - Escort GT, Protege LX, or Protege 4x4 - Junkyard it up.
Wheels - You will need 14" wheels with no exceptions. That rotor is big!

**Custom caliper bracket with spacer to accommodate the extra inch of rotor. Nobody is producing these at present. It would have to be a custom piece... would be great to have someone mock one up in thick plywood and have it reproduced. It won't look exactly like this, but to give you an idea: http://scootersparts.net/images/Fron...%20Bracket.jpg http://static.speedwaymotors.com/RS/...94031009_R.jpg

          Rear Escort GT Brakes

          Brake Pads - Escort GT/Miata/MX-3/Protege/Tracer - Porterfield R4S (#AP458 )
          Brake Rotors - Escort GT/Miata/MX-3/Protege/Tracer - Wagner (#BD125108 )
Brake Calipers - Escort GT/323/Protege/Tracer - Junkyard it up.
Wheels - You will need 14" wheels with no exceptions. That rotor is big!

**To make the hub face on which to mount the rotor, you have to take an Aspire drum to a machine shop and basically shave/cut off the whole of the drum. Thus, the outer body has to be chopped off. http://www.partstrain.com/images/pro.../ray9562_1.jpg
**Custom caliper bracket with spacer to accommodate the extra inch of rotor. Nobody is producing these at present. An OEM one from a junkyard may work, but nobody's tried it out yet, so it would have to be a custom piece... would be great to have someone mock one up in thick plywood and have it reproduced. It won't look exactly like this, but to give you an idea, check out the link posted throughout from the Aspire board.

Brake Support and Effective Stopping Power
Proportioning Valve - Either opt for the Escort GT one, which will bolt into an Aspire perfectly, or buy an adjustable Wilwood one and custom fit it.
          Master Cylinders - Escort GT (+1/8" - look into http://tinyurl.com/3ht9vhf) or Aspire (+1/16" - bolt-on).
Brake Booster - Aspire is a bolt-on... and either that or the stock booster will accommodate the Escort GT or Aspire upgrade on M/C.
Brake Lines - From everything I'm reading, it seems to be whatever is utilized for an Aspire swap. FMS would be your best bet for stainless parts.

I know what you're all thinking... why do I care so much about this mod? Because it opens up a massive availability of affordable performance parts. I realize that for the majority of cars out there, the Aspire swap will suffice. For those out there doing high performance driving, especially with 200+HP and Turbo DOHC motors, this just makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Drilled and slotted rotors are plentiful, race pads are ridiculously easy to find, and there's always the tertiary benefit of filling 14" wheels with super sexy brakes. My Aspire swap needs a complete overhaul, so I'm going to pursue this through and through if nobody else wants to jump on it. Hopefully sasquatch likes bracket-building... I'll have to give him an extra bonus. The only downside arguably would be the influence on fuel economy because of rotational mass. But if I had to choose between 2MPG and potentially saving the lives of myself, another road-user, and my cargo, I wouldn't have to choose.

For those even more into massive brakes, sasquatch and I are doing research and development into the monstrous RX-7 brakes. I'm going to also look into the swaps the Miata NA guys do. Stay tuned, chaps!
