  • Car time = Rear brakes for Festy

I never knew the rear brakes could be so stubborn ,
I took the old ones off and had the new one on in no time ,
But I realized the adjusters was not free,
so I take them apart again , and realize that there was another little spring under the cam on the adjuster ,
I took it off and they still don't move ,after some WD-40 and a aluminum hammer ,and those tools that only produce sounds out of my mouth ,that make you feel better.
I finally get them to wiggle back n forth and spin on the pin.
I had the cam on the very start of the edge ,Man they have got to be right on the money to get the drum on ,If it was off a hair ,the drum would not go on.
Karl, I may try to install the cable tomorrow ,
I ran out of daylight and it was starting to rain

Pick up some extra self-adjuster mechanisms when you are next at the junkyard to have on hand.

I managed to make a p-brake cable connector so I didn't have to put in an Aspire cable assembly. It only needed about a half-inch of extra length. I should do a write up on it some day. It's pretty easy and saves a lot of work. Essentially, you snip off a Festiva cable end at the drum (from another car at the 'yard--may as well get both ends since you are ruining a cable assembly), remove the snipped cable, squash the U shaped piece with a vise and drill another hole. You have to put in a piece to keep the open end of the U piece open though. Look at it and you'd figure it out.

Or you could just use the Aspire one and have to make no modifications to it... Since you already have to pull all the rest of it you might as well just grab the whole assembly..

To put in the Aspire p-brake cable, you'd have to remove some of the interior to get it out of the donor car, then remove some of your own interior to take your Festiva cable out and then install the Aspire cable. Yes, it would be "neater" but it also takes more work. I'd guess maybe an extra hour or so. Making an adaptor only takes about fifteen minutes, providing you have the right tools.
