  • Rear Aspire Struts

Anybody know of any aftermarket struts with a decent pricetag that have higher spring perches than stock that fit on an aspire?

Nope. But I'm assuming your having tire rubbing issues, I did too with my 205/50/15 Michelins. I solved it by extending the bottom of the factory struts 1/2" using a section of pipe. Cut the strut halfway from the shock body and the round bushing. Slid both cut ends Inside some 2" sections of thick wall pipe and welded them where I wanted them. Haven't had an issue since.

Fyi, Just make sure you know how to weld with good penetration for safety and dont heat up the shock area too much. Dont want those welds coming apart on an expressway, disastrous.....

yah i'm sort of trying to kill 3 birds with one stone, my stock struts are shot and I have Miata lowering springs, and my old 195/70/15s would rub so I never actually used them and they were stolen.. but I need bigger tires now.

I think bilstein still makes the rear struts with this skinny rods at the bottom.

The strut rod diameter doesn't really matter, what I need is a strut with a perch sitting higher than my stock strut, at least 2" taller. I don't feel good about welding directly to the strut rod where the gasses are compressed, but I can weld anywhere else.

Let me ask you guys this, what effect would it have on the springs if I shaved off 1/8" from the outside diameter of the top 2 or 3 coils with a grinder? If I could just shave enough to make the springs slip up inside the aspire strut tower I could weld a spacer to the lower perch and call it a good job.

I have 2 sets of springs, one set is 145 lb/in, the other set is 195lb/in. Which set would be best for a daily driver/weekend warrior setup?

My old springs are still in good shape, they didn't sag, but I want something a bit stiffer for drag racing.

If you search bilstein "1 7/8 spring" on eBay you'll find coilover sleeves for "small body" shocks. They fit kyb aspire shocks and allow you to run a 1 7/8" coilover spring. This will give you plenty of room for wider tires, and you can run 1 7/8" x10" southwest speed springs (29$ a spring)
