02 rio vs 94 aspire MT rotors and calipers

I figured I'd do something today, and didn't feel like much else.. so I got some measurements off the rio and aspire rotors and pads.. this is the results.





Now keep in mind, all of these parts are used, and there is unknown amounts of wear on each part, but from what I can tell the difference in braking power between a MANUAL transmission Rio and a manual transmission Aspire is negligible...there are no typos in that picture.

I found this interesting. The only advantage to a Rio set up is the roller bearing at the top of the strut. Right?

Yea, but keep in mind these are both from manual transmission cars....I don't have any idea if kia has an auto transmission rio, or what size those rotors or pads would be. The strut swap is probably the best mod I did to my car..but the BP isn't in yet :p

Sorry I'm a newbie to this forum. You can use an '02 rio strut for a festiva? I have an '88 and my struts are good but to damn soft. I was curious if 323 struts would work but have not yet looked into it. I'm also curious how to convert to having lug studs as opposed to the bolts. I'll be looking for that in this forum as well. Thanks.

Yea, 00-02, as long as it has a 2 bolt top mount. I'm not trying to be an a hole, but seriously, there's like 50 threads recently about this lol, try using the search feature, or even just looking a couple threads below this one..

ZZ, minimum thickness for an auto Aspire or Rio rotor would be 20mm. Nominal thickness would be around 22mm. Your measurement indicates that Rio rotor is well beyond minimal safe specs.

As far as "braking power" is concerned, that would be more a factor depending on rotor, caliper and pad quality, wear, materials and heat buildup.

The thicker Aspire auto rotors should provide longer lasting, more consistent braking power due to their ability to soak up heat without fading as soon as the thinner MT rotors.

Aspire manual rotors should have a nominal thickness of 18mm and minimum of 16mm.

As stated, the measurements were taken from MT, manual transmission, rotors.

Wether they even made auto 00/01/02 rios is unknown to me, but the manual transmission KIA rio rotors/knuckles/pads are for all intensive purposes the same as a Ford aspire manual transmission rotors. The calipers, rotors and pads are almost the same.

Neither rockauto.com nor Autozone specifies manual or auto. It appears they would be the same.
