  • JY Brake Upgrade Inquiries

Jumping around through this Sub Forum I'm trying to figure something out. I'm Fairly certain I know What parts I need to upgrade my brakes to a track worthy setup, but I just need confirmation.

    Front Brakes:
Aspire (Automatic trans) full knuckle assembly with ARP press in studs for a Miata, or 2001-2005 Kia Rio Front knuckle assembly. (With either route I must go with at least 13" wheels with a 4X100 lug pattern)

    Rear Brakes:
Aspire Rear Beam Axle Assembly with thread in or press in studs, or get a bracket fabricated to install Mazda Protege LX (Kia Sephia?) rear disc brakes ($$$) (Must use wheels with 4X100 lug pattern, but wheel diameter not as important)

    Brake Booster:
Ford Aspire (Manual trans), or Modified NA/NB Miata

    Brake Master Cylinder:
Ford Aspire, or Escort GT/Mazda Protege LX (for the more budget minded), (Modifications for brake proportioning?)

Any other information you could give me would be much appreciated, I'm just needing to know which parts I need to pull from the local PNP. The have a 1995 Ford Aspire (automatic), 2004 Kia Rio (automatic), 93 Protege LX, 95 Kia Sephia, 91 Miata and a 92 Festiva L. So I can damn near get everything to upgrade the brakes, and a few other things.

2 of mine are full Aspire swaps, both have Aspire master cylinders and boosters.
I'm running screw in studs instead of press in and I've had no issues even when running it in autocross.
Tire sizes range from 165/55/14 to 185/55/15. The 185's do hit the fenders and the struts unless those are modified.

Aspire rear is optional. The festiva drums are proven to be enough for track use. Helps save weight too.

I am already planning the "Ultimate street suspension" so the struts are not going to be an issue.

But if I plan to upgrade to the Aspire or Rio front brakes, I might as well have the rear lug pattern to match.

You can drill the festiva drums to 4x100 if they dont have the recesses in them.

              Or use dual pattern wheels.

Im just finishing up my Aspire swap this eve.
My question is: since I am a bit away from doing a coilover setup, of my available springs (F&R) should I use the Aspire or Festy springs?
I had planned on cutting them by a coil & I am using Miata daisies 185x55's.
I also made a set of .375 spacers for the front & rear but mounting them up it doesnt look like I need them so I probably post a WTB ad.

Anyone with 1st hand experience swapping aspire vs festy springs? Worth the effort?

Ok, so I'm kind of wanting to swap out the front hubs for something different as well.
The rotors aren't great and I'm not looking to get them pressed and stuff. What exactly
would someone need if they were gonna swap out just the front end on the Festiva
with something from the Rio or Aspire?

I'd guess hubs, calipers, caliper brackets, rotors (or buy new) and that's it?
Or would I have to get new CV axles and stuff as well?

I think the lug pattern on the rio/aspire is different though, right? 4x100 vs
4x114.3? In that case I'd have to get new wheels and tires as well.

If you want to keep the Festiva pattern, use Capri xr2 assembly's. Must use aspire control arms with that swap.

An aspire swap needs everything that touches the knuckle from an aspire except: axle and control arms. That means you need to get aspire or escort outer tie rod ends in addition to the parts listed above.
                      Trees aren't kind to me...

                      currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),
94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

Bummer. Perhaps I'll start looking around for an aspire then. I was thinking a Rio may
be easier to find. Still...the JY may end up selling that as a package deal if I just leave
                        it all connected haha

You buy it as a package but you take the rotors and brake pads off and replace them with new one. The JY will charge you for them so might as well buy new ones(they won't cost that much)
