Yes he is correct. I spent too much money on 175/70 r13 winter and summer tires. Sand blasted the rims and fixed em up nice and painted em. I think i put up with it for a month and went back to the 145/80 12's. Had no traction whatsoever in snow, and no power, it was stupid. With a B8, B6 or a turbo you may not notice so much but i couldn't handle the lack of power or traction in the stock B3.
For the brakes the rear wheel cylinders are super cheap if you wanna do a quick fix, but if your going to do a swap anyway now may be the time.
ok I am going to look into the wheels suggested. do you know roughly how much a full aspire brake swap will cost?
I've only been at this for 20 years and am ASE certified.
I don't have a clue.
I was just wondering man lol. what is an ASE certification? I will look into 175/60/13 tires but it looks like I will have to buy them from a store around here. would you know where I can get the parts for a full aspire brake swap?

I refuse to let an ASE certified tech touch my Festiva. They have caused me more problems than they have ever fixed.

Both times an ASE certified tech worked on my car, they took the right axle nut off with an impact wrench and destroyed the axle. I guess using an impact wrench correctly is not taught in the class?

It was 2 separate places that did it, 1 in Murfreesboro TN, the other in Cleveland,GA.
Same issue, both techs ASE certified. The GA one was a specialist in imports!

I wasnt meaning to cause an argument over ASE certifications lmao I just wanted to know why 175/60/13 is better than 175/70/13 because it is easy to get one and not so easy to get the other. anyways, I found this on amazon, I went to all of my local tire shops and only one was able to get the 175/60/13 tires.
also if there are some distributors or "self sale things online" I was hoping I could be directed to one of those so I could purchase the parts I need for a full aspire brake swap.

The Achilles tire is decent for the price, I run them.
The aspire swap needs a donor car to get what you need.
And Jerry, are you talking front axle nut or rear spindle nut? I can see the latter being the issue because there's less than a handful of cars that have the left hand thread on them. Also they're still morons because they should have easily seen that the rear bearings are adjustable and shouldn't be removed with anything bigger than a ratchet.

94 Justy 4WD, 87 Fiero GT, plus 2 parts cars. That's my fleet.

if im going to buy a whole other donor car, what other parts can I grab off of an aspire? can I use the axels? how about the ball joints or controller arms?

Right rear. There's no excuse for holding the trigger on an impact wrench on an axle nut until it strips the threads.

Doesnt matter what certification anyone has in any trade, only 2 things matter- experience and caring. An inexperienced person who cares a lot can have every certification and still screw things up, but at least they will try to make it right. But no experience and not caring combined with eery certification leads to a false sense of trust in someone who will do a bad job. If they have tons of experience but dont care you at least wont die but what they do for you may not look nice. And again, at that point certification or no certification doesnt matter. You just need someone with experience who cares. And nothing can really tell you who that is. So do it all yourself. :p
