Cool, that's dry? That looks really good. I hear you on the gnats. Not sure why bugs are so damn attracted to wet paint. The only advantage I think I'll have over you as far as coverage goes, is that I'm not changing my color. Black over black. Keep us posted on your progress. And good work so far. :thumbright:

Yeah, I was almost gonna do it white, but changed my mind when I found the festival green rustoleum that someone was selling one ebay. The newest can is dated 1997!Originally posted by Festiva_tunner View Postloving the green cant wait for more pics
Well I've already done the first couple coats, and those were the ones that had me worried. After the first coat it looked like crap and like I hadn't put any paint on at all. As I was painting I was thinking "Man, this is a mistake", but it looks like it's gonna turn out alright now. I mixed the paint pretty much 50/50 and it went on without any problems the first coat, but when I started the second coat with a different mixture I was getting a LOT of bubbles. I just kept rolling lightly until they all came out. I'll try to take more pics of the process for youOriginally posted by spiko View PostPlease take lots and lots of pictures if you can remember while painting it. I've been thinking of roller painting for some time.

I was thinking the same thing about this paint myself bat....the paint is actually dry in those pics and it's super shiny! After the first coat dried for about an hour I went out and ran my hand across it, and it was like glass. I almost don't even want to wetsand it, but there is a slight bit of orange peel (and dead gnats!) and I want it to at least look somewhat decent. So far it's looking like a promising paintjob though. The only bad thing about it is the fact that I'm really impatient and it takes so many coats before the color starts really showing. The bumpers are showing the green pretty good after two coats because they were primed, but the rest of the car just has a weird blue/green hue after the first 2 coats.Originally posted by batstiva View PostDon't know if it's because they are still wet, or what, but those have a fair amount of shine to 'em now. Liking the color, and really liking those wheels. Keep up the good work!!!
I'm curious how the $50 paint job goes for you. Don't think I'm going to get to mine before Madness, but I will be doing it at some point. I'll be interested in your thoughts on this when it's all done.Last edited by lanemeyer14; 08-18-2009, 07:28 PM.

Same here...I'm excited to get it finished! I wish there were some front and rear bumpers that would just follow the lines of the body straight down, instead of jutting out so far..I think these cars look awesome without bumpers!Originally posted by Ford_For_Life View PostLooks Sweet! Finished up a few things today....Got the rest of the wheels painted and cut the springs to lower the stance! Also did a good bit of prep work getting her ready for paint. Pics turned out a little blurry, sorry about that....

Hopefully I'll be able to start painting next week!! Can't wait to have this beast one color! I'm doing the $50 rustoleum paint job with Festival Green Gloss, and I'm thinking about doing the door/trunk jambs and engine bay gloss black. Any opinions on that?

Worrying about the alignment made me forget to post the other pics I took. Still working slowly, but at least it's coming along. Here's a side shot of how she's sitting as of now...

I decided against the shaved body line look, so I got another set of doors the same color that I will put on before I paint the car.
Here's the work I've been doing on the miata daisy wheels. I love the way these are looking!! Bronze center with factory silver lip...

Also primed the front and rear bumpers today, but only got a pic of the front...

So, I'm making progress, just not as much and not as quickly as I'd like. It's gotta be ready for Festiva Madness though!!Last edited by lanemeyer14; 08-05-2009, 12:48 AM.

Good advice rupp! I'll do the springs and then align it the best I can myselfOriginally posted by ruppenduro View Posti would have bet there was no engine in that car lol
is the suspension binding up or will it move up and down freely? you may want to try putting on your cut springs, and then align it yourself. set the steering wheel straight, then loosen the tie rod ends. set the wheels as straight as you can by looking at it. then just leave the tie rod ends loose, put the wheels back on and drive the car (take a wrench with you) adjust the tie rods as needed during your ride until the steering wheel is straight and it doesn`t pull to either side. turn the wheels whichever way necessary to get your wrench onto the tie rod. once you are finished tighten the tie rods. i hate to pay to align a festiva because there isn`t much to adjust on them, i can easilly align one as good as a shop can. its all up to you though.
car is coming along nicely!
