  • My B6T project

Well, after a very long wait I am actually making some progress on my B6T project. I still feel like I am in over my head, but at least I am having fun! Right now I have finished getting the motor ready, and have pulled the B3 out of the Festiva. I know a lot of you are going to give me a hard time, but I am using the stock transmission because I can't weld, and I gave up my capri tranny before I found this site and found out that people were actually making the swap work with the G series one. I am going to try and post some pictures, I have no idea what I am doing but I just got an account with image shack? Here goes:

Unlimited space to host images, easy to use image uploader, albums, photo hosting, sharing, dynamic image resizing on web and mobile.

again....don't know what I am doing with the picture thing, so it might not work?

I have a couple questions too. I went to try and put the capri mount in the passenger side engine mount where the old B3 one was and it didn't fit. I did some searching and found a few places where people said that they needed to trim the mount a little? Where do you trim and what do you trim with. Also, I am a little confused about how much of the oil pan I have to cut to make room for the axle, or whatever gets in the way down there.

Thanks in advance for whatever help you can give. I might be the least qualified person to ever try this, so don't worry about stating the obvious, it might not be that obvious to me.

Nice to see ya starting on a B6T. I haven't gotten started on mine yet. Do you have a clutch and mount for the swap with stock tranny? Sorry, I don't have any answers for your questions though.

Yeah, I ordered a clutch from clutchnet....I am still a little worried that it won't hold the extra power, but I got what they recommended me. And I bought an adapter plate from CWS tuning, he still has a few left if you need one. I emailed him yesterday because I am still a little confused about how it works, i'm not sure if I am supposed to use the B6T mount or the festiva one? Hopefully he will get back to me soon and I can let you know.

Hey there Luke. Glad to see you gettin started. You know I will gladly help in any way I can. I have some pics of the trans grindin somewhere I'll see if I can get them to you. If you need anything just let me know. I am headed down to wpb today. I have a welder so if you need i can bring it down and we can weld whatever needs welding. That clutch should be fine just remember no speedshifts. You'll be fine. My motor+turbo make more power than a stock capri and my tranny has 225k miles on it and works just fine. The clutch on the other hand(spec) doesn't like the torque in the higher gears. I'll call you later today. Good luck and I'm sure we'll be in touch.

Okay. Just askin ya cause PO of my project was gonna do the B6T to stock tranny swap. He already got everything needed, but I wanna push too much power for this setup. So, I've got the FMS B6T mount and bracket if you're interested, although you are a ways from me. But all in all, just nice to see another B6T swap in the works!

Thanks for the offer on the mount thered56, but for right now I am going to try and make the CWS plate work. Looking forward to seeing some of your project soon.

Greg thanks for the offer man....right now I don' think that I am going to be doing any welding, maybe some exhaust stuff in the future but for right now I have what i need. If you are down in the area and want to try and swing by let me know....my wife is out of town and I have the baby for the next 4 days. I will be in the garage during her nap her in a little bit if you call.
And if you find those pictures of the oil pan clearance that would be great.

            Thanks guys.

haha I look forward to it too, just so tied up in funds and time right now, motivation is plenty though! And of course, seeing progress on other swaps sure adds to that! Good luck with yours!

Got some work done today....turns out with Cam's mount you need to trim the B6T mount and use that with the adapter plates. So I trimmed up that mount and painted it along with the adapter plates, I kind of want the things that I am putting back on to the car to look nice. I also got the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel off the B3 to put on the other motor (just the flywheel, i have a the new clutch and pressure plate). The flywheel looked a little glazed? I don't really have the time, or funds right now to get it resurfaced, is that going to be an issue?

I also spent some time working on my Protege mirrors. In the pictures they are all sanded and ready for paint, I have one coat of gloss black on them now, I will put other pictures up when I am done. Well that's it for today, hopefully I will figure out how to put the pictures right on with the post instead of a link this time.......well couldn't figure it out

Sorry I will figure this out soon.

Got a little work done today. I Drilled the 2.5 inch hole through the fire wall and and got the ECU plugged in and almost mounted like I want it. I am having a hard time cleaning out unwanted things from the engine bay. Especially from the corner closest to the driver.

Do I need to keep my charcoal canister if I live in Florida and we don't have emissions testing?

And I am having a little trouble finding the pictures I took of the Capri engine bay before removing everything leaving me with a lot of guess work on where things are supposed to mount back up into place.

Does anyone have good, clear pics of just their wiring harness mounted up before they put the engine in?

Also, did you guys keep the festiva fuel filter or use the B6T one? If I do need to use the Charcoal canister again, should I use the festiva one or the B6T one....I have both.

Sorry for all of the questions, I am trying to search as much as I can.

I used the b6t fuel filter. We don't have emissions testing in my part of MD so I didn't put the canister back in. I just left the line unpluged and pulled all the solenoids and the canister. Itll turn the check engine light on when your cruising if you don't have the solenoid plugged in but it helps clean up the engine bay.

For the fuel filter I just used the one out of the capri. Because you know that works with the fuel system. But im sure you could probably use both since the fuel filter just has to let fuel run through it. Its your fuel pump that does all the work. Have you thought anything into that??

Well it has been a really long time since I have been on this site, and just as long since I have been able to work on my car. My wife and I bought a house and all my spare time has gone into working on the house before we moved in. Hopefully I will be able to get some stuff done and post some updates, I can't wait to have this thing running.

Fuel pump question. I have read on here that someone went to an auto parts store to get the fuel pump for the B6T and found out that it was the same part number as the stock fuel pump. Can anyone confirm this?????

So it looks like this Saturday will be the day that I get to work on the car again. I am hoping to get the clutch, flywheel, pressure plate stuff bolted up and then drop the motor in.

Has anyone tried putting the motor in before running the wiring harness? I guess I am asking if I am doing things out of order?

Also, are clutch alignment tools universal or do I need to get a specific one for this?

Can't wait to see the motor actually in the car, only thing I am more anxious for is to have it running.

For the Florida crew: All help is welcomed, food will be on me. thanks guys.
