Agree with the sage advice about the Shop Manual. It has exploded views, torque specs and procedures. Highly valuable reference material!

Focustiva: Because I was told it was was impossible to fit a Focus bumper on a Festiva.

K, I will get a manual. The engine has just under 100,000 miles on it. Should I get the crankshaft and both camshafts rebalanced or should they be good?

(I looked all over clubprotege.com and feoa.com websites for information and not much there for rebuilding information)

I wouldnt bother with balancing the rotating pieces, they should be good to go from stock. I would measure bore if ok hone cylinders and replace ring groups. New mains and rod bearings. check or replace oil pump. Gasket kit,Service cylinder head, good to go.
          Have fun
If you havent taken it apart, just run it.
Oh! you need a valve spring compressor, or three hands? ( to take valves out of head.)
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

Its there, On cp.com. get some miata pistons from 01 model, an extra exhaust cam, and paid subscription to cp.com for the cut intake mod how to. Oh, and some p&p on the cylinder head. Should make 150-160 hp.

This thread shows how to rebuild it for boost, but same basic principle.

                Thanks for the posts.
Does doing the exhaust cam swap make the idle more rough? I read a couple of posts about that, so I was hesitatant on doing that. Also finding miata pistons, are they expensive? Where could I find them for cheap?

                    I have a new question:
The bp engine that I obtained was off of a automatic escort, the festiva I have is an automatic, will the computer work? The one off the auto escort? And the festiva tranny should bolt right up to that engine right?

no and yes. you need a manual throttle body and a manual computer from the egt or prolx, and it will bolt to stock festy tranny but dont beat on it or you will grenade your tranny

It probably wouldn't be too bad on an auto tranny though

So your car was originally a 89' Automatic with the Vac-Advance FI set up? What are you doing with the old harness? I may be interested in buying it and some other things if you don't want them.

Festiva_fred I will be selling some stuff, so if you want the harness I could sell it to you forsure.
So is that a no, I cannot use the ecm off of the auto egt? And the throttle body will not work off of the auto?
