    K, Good idea mike!!!
I think it would be off of the escort, it makes more sense logically. Does anyone have knowledge to answer these questions, taking into consideration I have an AUTO festiva.
Do I need an auto ECM from an EGT or a standard ECM?
Do I need to get a throttle body from a standard ECM?
Is there anything else I need to pull off of a standard ECM to make this swap work the first time?

Also I have done alot of reading, and there is little information on the BP auto swap. two things:

timmay, you do need an ECM from a BP Car, It has the pinout for the Variable intake. As far as the throttle body goes, find one that fits the throttle body and heres what I did to fit my TPS to it, quite simple really! I can't remember exactly the size of thread in the end of the Body shaft (Ithink it was 4mmx.25?) make a small shaft and center drill and tap to the same thread size as body shaft, measure for correct length. File a flat side in the made shaft, using a screw with the head cut off to make a small stud, red loctite it and crank it on the shaft to the proper orientation, i thas been working just fine in my J/Y special for over a year now.
        Does the above make sense?
Aspires and Sways all around, Miata B6 installed, KYB G2Rs just installed in front. Wish for coil overs someday.

                Quick rebuild help!!!

I am rebuilding the engine and according to the service manual I am missing a piece! It says I need the "Main bearing support plate". Is this actually needed or is there a reason I can't find the piece?

disregard the last note... I went to the junk yard today and learned that the Ford Escort Gt does not have a main bearing support plate.

If you can get one from a protege engine it is suggested to put in the escort engine.

I want one to put in my engine.

I need more words of wisdom!
I am on a low budget and need to have the engine rebuilt in the next several weeks. Here are the three options I have:
                        1. Take the cylinder head to a shop to regrind the valves (quote $300 canadian)
                        2. Take the cylinder head apart myself and change the seals
                        3. Leave it alone and put it back on the engine
Which option is best? Time is running out as well as money. The engine has 170,000km on it (107,000 miles). What should be done?

I would do the seals yourself using a manual if you are on a low budget. It will be a learning experience

K, that was the response I was hoping for. I have to buy one of those big C clamp style valve spring compressors for the head right? Any other tools?

I would buy or download a manual then go from there
