  • So is it really necessary to have a separate electric oil pump? Trying to minimize costs, and a cheap Chinese electric oil pumps costs $100 off ebay alone.

Also what about the FMU/FPR? Is it really necessary? Same for the more powerful fuel pump up by the engine.

I am just going off your electrical diagram you drew up far back in this thread.

I was hoping just to get away with getting the turbo, some hardware store pvc piping, some intake couplers, a blow-off valve, turbo timer, and whatever I would need to run oil lines. What would you recommend? Also what did you use for the oil pressure/oil feed tap?

oil pump more than the fmu. without a way to get the oil back to the engine, itll start seeping through your seals in your turbo and things'll get smoky. ebay fmus work fine. 80 dollars isnt a big deal.

      • You won't need a turbo timer, so that saves a good chunk of change.

        • So yes to oil pump, but don't really need a FMU or a turbo timer. What about a boost controller? How does one typically control the amount of boost?

Granted I'm not saying that I won't eventually add those things, but initially just want to run around 8 PSI which I have heard is about as high as you can go without leaning out. Though of I am not mistaken people normally fix the leaning out problem by by running a more powerful fuel pump, using an FMU, and running larger injectors right?

Wastegate springs set the base boost pressure, boost controllers allow you to increase the boost pressure by basically restricting the vacuum line that controls the wastegate

              • You can't go past 3 or 4 lbs, before it leans out. An fmu is required unless you have another way of ramping up the fuel

                      • You can get away with less fuel with watermeth, but those systems aren't cheap. FMU is much cheaper and probably less of a hassle in the long run.
In Florida it is common to have a half dressed cousin hang out the trunk and squirt at the intake to the turbo with a supersoaker full of race gas when the driver shouts "more fuel hunny" hehe

I did this way back in the day after I read about turbo chrysler guys doing it

It 'worked' but ended up blowing up my turbo, and detonation marks all over the pistons 2/3 - turns out the fuel doesn't flow evenly to all cyls with a setup like this
It took me a little bit to wise up lol.
