I don't know how you figure that! That seems like a hybrid of mis-information.
Here's a rule of thumb you can use to calculate projected gains...Any motor
If you can add an additional 14.7 psi of pressure to an engine, you will effectively double the power, because 14.7 pounds IS atmosphere (at sea level).
Now take 62 and divide it by 14.7 and you get 4.21...that's 4.21 hp per pound of boost, not 10!
Take say a 140 hp mitsubishi and divide it by the same number and yes you'd get nearly 10 (it would be 9.52)
Ok so now a 62 hp b3 with 10 pounds of boost (and obviously, the appropriate fuel percentage) and you'd only be achieving a number like 62+42 = 104.

Simply do this formula against cars where the factory uses the same engine with and without turbo charging...like the mitsubishi's 4G63 engine @ 140 na, then again with turbo added with the appropriate pounds of boost.
Same thing with the stock NA Nissan SR20DE engine, and then with the SR20DET.

        • ^I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination. Now consider this.

1998 Dodge Neon 2.0 SOHC factory "tuned" to 132hp

The B3 is neutered from the factory. It has 65% of the displacement of a neon so it should be doing 85.8hp instead of the stock 63hp.
Matt knew this and it's obvious by the HP vs. TQ of the stock ratings that it can't breath well enough and was tuned for economy and ease of driving. With all the mods Matt did, the cam was then a serious bottleneck in the system. Why he didn't include a cam with this build off the bat I really don't understand.

It should do around 144hp with 10psi of boost with a factory-safe tune. Not Mazda/Kia/Ford safe but safe.

          EDIT: Goofed up there.

          • Move on....the car failed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why waste talent building a b3 when you can do it to a bp for near the same cost.

                  • And I can't have an opinion. If you are going to invest time and money into something wouldnt you rather start with something that has a head that actually flows and can support the horsepower goals that this guy was aiming for.
Like I said, the car was a failure thats why he stopped posting the progress. I bet even he realized it...thats why it is for sale.
A bp swapped car with a junkyard turbo setup would hand that car its butt anytime.

Because the B3 is already there, and it's really sweet to make power with something that wasn't made to do it? That's why I'd do it.
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

                        • I'm tired of seeing all the debating of why matt is wasting his time building a B3, the man has talent and probably just wants to see what can be done with a B3, BECAUSE HE CAN and not because there is better options

So i'm locking this thread, mattdickmeyer, if you come back and wish to post progress, pm me and i will unlock this thread for you
